Our team has shrunk!  The Davis family has moved back to Northern Mexico to fill a ministry need there, so they are no longer a part of our church-planting team.  We miss them and they leave a hole on our team.  Please pray with us as we trust the Lord to fill that hole with whoever He chooses.

Tom & Teresa continue to be a blessing to our team based in the city.  They make trips out to the village, hauling materials, supplies, dentists, etc…  They are also our guest house when we are in the city!  It’s quite a house-ful!

Katie is almost finished teaching Josiah 6th grade.  They’ve worked hard and will finish early.  Now, with fewer kids to teach, she will be able to spend more time learning the Nahuatl language and culture.

Dan & Sarah are still lacking half the adobes they need for their house.  Pray they might be finished soon!  Their hope and goal is to get a roof on their place before rainy season.  They both are beginning to study the Nahuatl language and culture a few hours a day.

I have just begun studying the Nahuatl language and culture full-time.  That means a lot of time spent out with the people and the rest of the time at my desk!  Pray for patience, diligence, and aptitude!

Our house goes up!

Our house goes up!

The guys got back today from the village.  They hauled over 30 pick-up loads of dirt to fill in our foundation!  The building team took a break so that they could just shovel the dirt from the pickup right into the house.  The team got started again when they’d finished the fill.  We have 6 rows of bricks up as of Monday.  Every day, they do 2 more rows of bricks.  And, there are about 20 rows all together.  It’s going fast now!

There is a work team coming this weekend, so on Monday, the guys will head back to the village with them.  They’re hoping to be able to pour our cement floor and our bond-beam on top of the adobe walls!  It’s moving along!

Our House

Well, we don’t have a house yet.  We were hoping that our foundation and walls would be completed when we went out on our last visit to the village.  And, we were planning on getting the 2nd house started.  But, as we didn’t realize just how much cement we’d need for the foundation, the construction team ran out of materials half-way through the foundation.

Half of the foundation done - The site has a drop of about 2 feet, which made the foundation more work than we thought.

So, when we arrived, the foundation was half-way done.  We had brought more cement with us that was for the 2nd house and were able to order some more from some dump-truck drivers that were delivering supplies for a government clinic that is being built in our village.  So, the construction team got going with the extra cement and made good progress while we were there.

Dan worked with the tribal guys who were chosen to build our house.

We’re planning another building trip in January.  We hope to put a bond-beam on the top of our adobe walls to hold them together and to provide a place to attach the roof.

In the Village: Making Adobes

Our closest neighbor lady busy making adobes

We still lack many adobes, so I would not be surprised if we ladies get involved in making some adobes, too!  It would be good time spent with the ladies!  Visiting, learning their world, and at the same time working to get our houses built!

Please pray with us that the people would be motivated to keep making adobes so we can continue building the Davis’ and Alkire’s houses.
