Lauje Tribal Bible Update

Posted by Jason and Angie Bechtel on Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Here is a recent update from the primary translator, Barrie Williamson:

News from Lauje continues to be encouraging. There were 20 more baptisms at Ogoalase in mid-January! News from Jason Bechtel in Canada is encouraging as well. The work of the layout of the Lauje New Testament is drawing to a close. It has been exciting to work from here online via Skype with Jason. He is really doing a fabulous job and I have every confidence that the finished product will portray that excellence and bring much praise and honor to the Lord.

Titus Rosh Poidevin

Titus Rosh Poidevin

The phone is ringing. What time is it? 4:30am. It could only be one person. It could only be for one reason. Krista has had her baby.

On Wednesday, March 10th, we welcomed our nephew, Titus Rosh Poidevin into our family.  He weighed in at 8lbs, 14 oz, only one ounce smaller than Lorelei when she was born.  He is my sister’s first baby and my parents’ first grandson.  Delena is always playing pretend that her cousins come to visit her and now she has one that can come to visit for REAL.  So she is super excited!

Angie's first gluten free pie

Angie's first gluten free pie

As some of you know, Jason’s been on a gluten-free diet for a few months now.  It’s been interesting, to say the least, getting used to cooking with different flours.  This past weekend I attempted my first pie.  It turned out okay.  I think next time I might cook it at a lower temperature for a longer time.

Delena's Uncle Sean celebrated his birthday too, princess crown included!

Delena's Uncle Sean celebrated his birthday too, princess crown included!

With family and fanfare, Delena celebrated her 3rd birthday on February 26th. The actual day wasn’t that eventful for her because she’d already had all her parties. Yes, I said all. This year we were actually able to consolidate a bit and only had 2 parties, instead 3 or 4! She had her first party in Kitchener with Jason’s family and the second one was at my parents’ place which was with Jason’s Mom and my siblings. It was really cute to watch her open her present from us on her birthday though because I had a lot of little things individually wrapped and after each one she would say, “Thank you Mommy!”. She always enjoys doing stamps when I make cards, so I got her her own little tote and a few stamps of her own. She’s been having a blast with them!

Jason Survives Weekend With Girls Without Angie

Posted by Jason and Angie Bechtel on Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Jason’s Facebook status read, “It wasn’t even 24 hours since Angie left me with the girls, and I was taking not one, but both girls into the Emerg! I am a terrific dad!”

Mulock Christian Fellowship's Ladies RetreatTwo weekends ago, I once again had the privilege of taking our church ladies group to “the big house” in Kitchener for our own little ladies retreat. It was great fun, as usual, but it was extra special for me because two of my very good friends from our time in training at NTMC were able to join us. One of the girls is on staff at our sister school in Missouri. She was able to come as our guest speaker and did a great job of getting us into the Word and opening up to each other. The second friend attended our church when she was in the training so I snuck her in! :) It was a bittersweet time as I had a fun time with her, but I’m going to miss her as her and her family head off to the Philippines this month! Her whole family actually came down for the weekend, so Jason and the girls were with the rest of her family.

Jason did well managing the whole weekend. He only had to go to ER once! The girls both got eye infections while I was gone, but Jason took it all in stride. They even had supper ready for us when we got home from the retreat!

How do missionary’s kids fit into the tribal church planting plan?

Posted by Jason and Angie Bechtel on Monday, March 1st, 2010

In a remote tribal village a missionary begins her day contemplating how to balance her two main responsibilities: connecting with the ladies in the village and meeting the educational needs of her children.

NTM believes that one of the highest priorities of missionaries is the care of their own children. But this need not conflict with ministry.

Hot off the press, the newest newsletter from New Tribes Mission of Canada, GPS, highlights how the whole family is involved in reaching the lost with the Gospel.
