March 2012 News- Mom is 97
She had 30 visitors at one time during the day, March 5th. They were so happy for mom. She has two daughters around her and their spouses and married children and their children. I hope to join them during the first weeks of June.
Gwen will be here in Knoxville this time since my sister Carleen is caring full time for mom. I also hope to visit my brother Hudson who works with his wife Resa among a tribal group.
Since our last letter the Lord has given us Rute Schuring, Claudio and Edna Berto, and possibly Giovana Gomes as translators. Giovana trained with Rejaneide Monteiro and Percio Coutinho back in 1985. Thank you so much for being a praying partner with this translation team. Rejaneide just told me that the last corrections are being done to Volume 1. As long as errors or possible improvements are found the slow readings keep happening. Volume 2 should be about 1/3 rd done. Since we have already translated many of the last Volumes we have plenty to do while waiting for the transaltors to provide new work for the correctors (Calvin, Simone, Thiago and Rejaneide- in that order).
Paulo and Patricia Terzzei, our former team mates, are flying today into one of the more difficult works on earth. They will encounter many new customs and hardships. They will have one couple and two single girls as their co-laborers. The learning of the language will be a hard long work. The Lord is worthy. He is our Savior. He would save to the uttermost.
December 2011 News
Only our Lord could promise thousands of years ago that He would send a Savior, a Man Child who would destroy Satan and his power over our sinful race. Only the Lord could send a Savior two thousand years ago who destroyed Satan there in the land of Israel at Mount Calvary. Only the Lord could keep believers announcing for two thousand years to the world that the Savior came and is desirous of giving each one life eternal. Only the Lord has that much love!
We thank you for allowing the Lord to interest you in this ministry of translation on behalf of the Portuguese speaking missionaries. We have so few years to be privileged with this responsibility. Part of the task is to pray for one another. We need our Lord’s help each day. Prayer is powerful because the Lord is.
Last month we all called on Him to use the Extreme Camp in Peniel Bible Institute to raise up laborers for the fields. Over 160 students from all over Brazil came. The Lord used the story of the unreached Zóe people group to raise up 25 new laborers. Most of these are young High School graduates who will most likely begin their 4 to 5 year missionary training within a few years.
How is the translation team doing?
In November Paulo and Patrícia Tezzei joined our team. Patricia translated 6 lessons, but now they are headed to the Yanomami tribal work which they have given their lives to. Fábio and Simone Marzarotto have been invited to work in their local church since the pastor has gone to work in Africa. Simone desires to keep helping our team from their new home in Santa Catarina.Thiago and Letícia Ishy are getting ready to do their last course of missionary training and linguistics and will be travelling in January, out where we taught for 9 years. He wants to format a good group of lessons of Volume 2 before they leave. He hopes to continue while out there. Pércio and Tânia Coutinho are being asked to move up to the mission’s main office in Anópolis. He is being asked to participate in leadership of New Tribes of Brazil. Robson and Emilia Abreu continue doing Rep work. Emilia is still helping by translating. Rejaneide Monteiro is still on the team. Gwen and I are mainly watching the Lord bring folks our way so as to keep this task going.Thank you so much for your fellowship. Volume 2 is composed of 70 evangelistic lessons from Genesis to the Ascension of our Savior. We have reached lesson 22. Only 14 volumes after this one!
We are grateful for your kind participation. The Lord loves to burden our hearts and then use us to be a part of a team of His children, active in sharing the Good News.

From Japan to Brazil
Soon after W W II a Buddhist family from Japan, called Ishy, immigrated to Brazil. Later, their son, Tomita, became a believer and together with his girlfriend came to study at the Brazilian Bible Institute where Gwen and I were working. The couple married, finished the three training institutes and then proceeded to a tribal work. On a furlough time while they were in southern Brazil, Tomita was in a fatal car accident and in which his wife and two daughters were severely injured. Their son, Thiago (James,) who was twelve at the time, was not in the car.
In our last letter we presented Thiago as one who is part of our translation team. How thankful we are for this second generation missionary. After completing his university training, he entered New Tribes Mission Bible
Institute where, after completing the course, he has been teaching for the last two years. He just recently married Leticia, and they are faithfully serving at the Bible Institute.
Right now they are helping to organize a large “Extreme Camp”, November 12-15, for the purpose of challenging high school and college age young people with the need for missionaries to do tribal evangelism. In January, Thiago and Leticia plan to continue the two remaining phases of training, trusting the Lord to direct them into some area of reaching tribal people. They will appreciate your praying for them.
Thank you for your partnership with us.
Yours to reach the unreached!

Trip to Brazil
Thank you for praying for us during June.
Thiago (on Calvin’s right) and Simone(far right) worked with me in correcting and formatting Volume 1 and some of 2 of Building on Firm Foundations (BFF Revised Version). Our spouses held the forts. Leticia is Thiago’s brand new bride. He is a teacher at Peniel. Fábio and his wife are students at PBI and while his wife worked on our correction team he helped all month with a production on DVD of Bible lessons in Portuguese. Gwen cared for my mom, Cora Taylor, for a solid month.
Mom was a big blessing to us. She would wake up with a joyful smile and gratitude for our work. She is always a challenge to anyone as far as praying
and expressing to the Lord our needs and those of others. When we helped her to bed at night she would ask us to pray. She would finish with thanksgiving. She always expressed thanks to the Lord for the lovely house her daughter and son-in-law have provided for her during these difficult years. We each had our time with tears and we left encouraged and blessed. The therapist has trained her to walk the length of a volley ball court with a good walker, but she still has great difficulty in moving her feet.
Please join Pércio and Tânia Pereira and their family in prayer these coming months as he heads up the translation on the rest of Volume 2. The team has almost 500 pages left to completion of this volume. He needs time and health. Both Tânia and Pércio are teachers at Peniel. He helps direct the school and is a full time pastor at an Independent Baptist Church. They both care for her parents who now live next to them in retirement.
Robson and
Emília Abreu were our students back in the early 1980’s. They represent NTM among the Brazilian churches and Bible Colleges. Emília has done the translation of the first 5 lessons of Volume 2 of the BFF (Revised Version). They would appreciate our fellowship and interest in their lives in prayer.
Rejaneide Monteiro has worked with us since1989. She will be final corrector on the whole series if the Lord helps her and gives her time do this and many other projects at the Headquaters of NTM of Brazil.
Gwen and I send our greetings and appreciation for your part on this team.
in Christ Jesus,
Calvin and Gwen
