About

Literacy is the ministry of enabling tribal people to read their own tribal languages, principally to be able to understand the Bible translation in their language, and also to be able to participate fully in the life and function of their own local churches. The Word of God is powerful to transform lives and cultures. God works through His Spirit, His Word and His people.

Wendy works with missionary teams and local believers to develop reading curricula and to train local teachers.

To paraphrase part of our purpose statement:

    • Essential to our strategy–God’s Word for the church – God’s Word is what impacts a culture, transforming it. We model with our lives dependence on and obedience to what God’s Word says; we create a faithful translation of Scripture which can be read and understood, and we teach it. When this teaching is done on the basis of relationships and a deep understanding of culture at a world view level, God’s Word has the opportunity to engage the hearts and lives of people in a dynamic way, enabling them to respond in genuine life-changing faith.

    • The believers will treasure God’s Word as His communication of Truth, and therefore as their complete, final and absolute authority.
The believers will have available in their “heart-language” a consultant-checked New Testament (along with a minimum of the Old Testament portions for the evangelistic Bible studies and lessons for new believers).

    • All believers – regardless of age, social status, or gender – will have the opportunity to become literate and then improve their proficiency so that they are able to read God’s Word and take an active role in those aspects of church life which require literacy skills.
