Going Where The Wind Blows

The Chens Planting Tribal Churches in Papua New Guinea

About

Ministry

Motivated by the love of Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, New Tribes Mission exists to assist the ministry of the local church through the mobilizing, equipping, and coordinating of missionaries to evangelize unreached people groups, translate the Scriptures, and see indigenous New Testament churches established that truly glorify God.

- Purpose Statement of NTM –

We began living with the Biem people in early 2010 and started learning about their language and culture. The language group spans over 4 islands with the largest in population being over 1,500.

Tribal church planting involves many years of learning the tribal culture and language, teaching foundational biblical lessons, planting national churches, discipling young believers and cultivating national church leadership as well as implanting literacy programs and translating the Bible. Not to mention building your own house, depending on bush planes for transportation and supplies, fighting off Malaria and other diseases and homeschooling your children right there in the tribe! The process of seeing a tribal church into maturity could take up to 15-25 years.

You are probably thinking now…who is adequate for such a huge undertaking? Certainly not us! One of the major emphasizes in our training so far is to recognize our dependency on God and God alone. The task of taking the gospel into an unreached people group is not something that can be accomplished by human commitment and efforts. Jesus tells Peter in Matthew 16, “On this rock, I will build my church”. Not you. Not me. Jesus will build the church. As you partner up with us in missions, please know that it is not about us…you are in a bigger “meta-story” of God reclaiming every tongue, every nation, every tribe for His own glory.
