Our first week or so in Papua New Guinea

Posted by:

Wow! What a week! Or well uh, two weeks now. Part of us feels like we just stepped (stumbled, tripped, fell..) out of the plane yesterday while part of us feels like we’ve been here some time already. For those who don’t know, we got to fly in one of NTMA’s (New Tribes Mission Aviation) Kodiak planes from Port Moresby to the highlands on Thursday, February 16th.

NTMA’s Kodiak ready to fly.

Since we landed, we’ve been settling into the house, met ...

2016 Year in review and 2017 Plans

Posted by:

2016 saw many changes to Joel’s ministry with Communications. It started out projecting to be a busy year, with more travel than previous years, as he was a part of a collaborative team of leaders’ working in several disciplines beyond Communications. But that role shifted quickly as big change came to the structure of the whole communications, development and mobilization teams. He then found himself in a much more stationary, but very much needed role of Business Administrator for the ...

Farm & Fleet

I nearly had an emotional breakdown in Farm & Fleet.

Don’t worry, to save face for men everywhere, I held it together. If you’ve been following our journey, you know that we moved from Waukesha, WI to the Elkhart, IN area about 6 months ago. When we lived in Waukesha, I would often run errands in the evening after we’d put the kids in bed, because shopping is so much easier without little kids, and Katie doesn’t really like shopping anyways. ...

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18

Thankful: Here in America it is “that time of year;” our Thanksgiving holiday is only a week away! We are truly THANKFUL for each one of you who are part of our lives and the ministry to the Higaunon people in the Philippines. We cannot do what we do without you; your prayers and financial partnership are vital.

Answered prayer: In our last update ...

The Fam

Thought I’d give a little family update here for late fall. The kids are settling into their new home pretty well and we’re excited to see what our first winter living in Bath, Michigan will be like. Right now both of the kids have colds and of course that makes things… interesting. 🙂 Rye, for example, always asks for medicine and Ava just isn’t sure what’s wrong so she cries a lot more than normal. Fun, fun. Other than that we’re ...

Concert Choir in Korea last year

Concert Choir in Korea last year

Our ministry here at Faith Academy is to missionaries’ children. We support missionaries by providing a good education to their children. This frees them to focus on their ministry, knowing their children’s educational needs are being met. We want to do more than provide them with an education academically. We want to see them grow spiritually and to be global Christians as well. The concert choir is going to Korea again this year in October ...

The Family – Prayer Countdown, Day 3

Posted by:

We begin our final preparation for departure to Papua New Guinea by asking you to join us in prayer for our family, nuclear & extended.  Together we’ll face unprecedented relational challenges.  That is of course from our perspective, indeed there are many who have walked this same trail before and from whose example we take heart.  While certainly stretching, it is an incredible opportunity for us to understand  and experience God’s love and grace more fully as we lean in all ...

Welcoming new granddaughter

Baby Bella

We wanted to let you know that she’s here! Isabella Marie Collins was born on May 28. She weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 18 ¾ inches long. We praise God with Joey & Connie for this little miracle. Bella is our eighth grandchild, but it just never gets old! We can’t get enough time holding our newest little love and kissing those tiny fingers!

If you are interested in pictures of us with Bella, click on the Photo ...

Contentment

It’s been an emotional couple of weeks in our household. If you’ve followed our newsletters, you’ll remember hearing of how the Lord worked to sell our house in only 3 days on the market. The next month was a whirlwind! So many things that need to be orchestrated, completed, moved, and finished. The flood of emotions that come with good byes. Saying good bye to our friends, family and neighbors. The single most emotional moment was pulling out of our ...
