Living out of a Box

Saying good-bye to the Patpatar…for a little while.

As I piled into the boat with Aaron and my girls, I shook my head and felt like crying. I thought I’d have another week for this transition. I wasn’t quite ready to leave the Patpatar behind yet.

This is just one illustration of some of the things that have been happening in our lives lately. We’ve had some transitions that we expected to make, with some unexpected twists and turns.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Merry Christmas

We love this season of the year where we take time to reflect and rejoice in all that was accomplished for us through the arrival of that babe – Immanuel, God in the flesh! What wonderful grace bestowed on mankind!

A visitor: We’re heading to the airport on the 21st ...

The dichotomy of serving overseas during the holidays.

Posted by:

There is no greater time of the year than the holiday season, Thanksgiving, then Christmas followed by New Year. A time when we all celebrate with family and friends with fellowship, food and fun. Add to that the changing weather with the leaves turning, cooler temperatures and often snow on the ground and it is no wonder so many people love this time of year. As believers there is even more reason for celebration.

While living in PNG we experienced the ...

It’s beginning to look like… Christmas?

ball

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, at least in the lobby here at New Tribes! You may have heard of Christmas in July sales (especially if you craft) but around here Christmas comes in August. We’re busy filming a special video that will be released during the holidays. We will need the next couple months for post-production editing in order to have it ready in time.

conflicting christmas

It seems that my life has been and will continue to be marked by constantly conflicting emotions.

I knew that having holidays overseas would be hard; and I knew that the first one would be the hardest. I also knew that they would be some of the most beautiful if I let them.

Our beautiful tree!

Our beautiful tree!

I dove into the festivities around the center; desperately wanting to jump into the new normal. The parties, the caroling, the cookies, and the movies. I decorated ...

Thank-you for your ongoing love and support. As we consider the many gifts that we will give and receive this Christmas, none is more important to our family than you: our supporters, family and friends. We are so thankful that you’ve chosen to continue to be involved in our lives and that you’ve invested so much in us over the years. We pray you get a lot of time with family and friends this Christmas and most of all we ...

Thoughts on Christmas

The story of Zacharias & Elizabeth has really struck us this Christmas – they had spent a lifetime waiting and wishing for a child, only to face barrenness and the cultural shame associated with it.  Yet, Zacharias & Elizabeth remained faithful to the Lord and are record in Luke as being “righteous in the sight of God.”  They could have been bitter and rejected God, instead they chose to faithfully serve Him, regardless of their personal pain.  The ...

He said, “Do not be afraid” – that’s a tall order in this day and age. There are a lot of fearful people in the world today; but we know ...
