Got Water?

Installing the new water pumpAccess to drinkable water? For most of us Americans we don’t really give it a second thought. We turn on the faucet and expect there to be water and for it to be drinkable. We find it extremely inconvenient to be without that water for even a few hours. Here in Africa it’s a completely different story. There is never a guarantee of water and definitely don’t plan on it being clean. Believe us, we’ve seen where the water comes from! But, for some villages around us there isn’t even a well in their village for them get water. A village near us had saved for a long time to purchase a pump and dig a well to be able to get water. Then, the pump was stolen right off the well. For the last two years the villagers have walked almost a mile to fill up containers with river water to be used for washing, cooking and drinking. This past week Steve was able to go with some men to help install a new pump for the village. It’s awesome to see us being able to help the village with the funds they need to purchase a new pump. How exciting to see water spurting out and to hear the chief of the village express his thanks. He says that he is thankful that the people of his village will have good drinking water again. We know that wells and drinking water are not the main reason we are here, but we also know that each of kindness and compassion that we show to the people around us opens the door that much further for us to share the Gospel. We pray that they will see that the desire of our hearts is to continue to build bridges within the community. Keep Praying!
