Pray for Aronolda

Posted by Simon and Annika Flanagan on Saturday, June 4th, 2011

AronoldaPlease be praying for Aronolda who is sick with cerebral malaria. This is the most dangerous form of malaria and can kill quickly.

The night before we left for conference was filled with worry and excitement as rushed to get medicines to Aronolda. All we knew was that she had passed out and was now unable to recognise her surrounding and family. Annika and Marie went across to the other side of the village at 11pm. Prayed for Gods help and tested Aronolda for malaria and gave her medicines to bring down her high temp. To cut a long story short God answered prayer and her temperature came down and she recognised her children. She is by no means out of the woods and was taken to the local bush hospital this week. We don’t really know how she is doing so please be in prayer for Aronolda; she is a sister in Christ and her husband Polsen is also a believer. She had a baby only 1 week ago and has another small boy. Please pray that God will use this sickness to show his power and care for his child by healing her quickly. If not pray that he can use whatever comes to grow His church. Thanks for your prayers! We will keep you posted.

Love and prayers,

Simon, Annika, Nya and Noah

Posted by Simon and Annika Flanagan on Monday, February 7th, 2011

Hi friends,

Nya happy mealWell we did arrive a day late in Aus, but since we have gotten here things have gone pretty well. We are currently enjoy McDonald’s free wifi; and have partaken of our first golden arches food in over 1 yr! Today was a big day! We have even been to a supermarket (Big W – just like Walmart) and the choices and selection never cease to amaze us even though this isn’t our first rodeo (returning to the west). Needless to say the kids are going nuts (more…)

delayed….

Posted by Simon and Annika Flanagan on Friday, February 4th, 2011

Hi,

Appreciate your prayers! We are stuck in Port Moresby and are delayed to what we hope is only tomorrow. Yasi, of course played a role in this so we hope we are able to make our appointment tomorrow, so we can make the operation on Monday. We have found a safe place to stay and are doing well. We will let you know when we get to Aus.

Thanks for praying!

off to Cairns…finally

Posted by Simon and Annika Flanagan on Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that hurricane Yasi did stop us going to Aus for Noah’s medical. But after a lot of phone calls and running around today we are set to go to Aus tomorrow. We are just thankful we weren’t there when the storm hit and that the Lord saved us and the family the worry of that. It will be so good to get Noah seen on Saturday and then we will hopefully have the operation on Monday. Please pray the Lord would keep him safe and the operation would be successful. We have then, after Monday to wait for two weeks for the ENT to do his final check-up before we can return to PNG.

Please remember to pray for the Mengen church in these days, our hearts are with them and we miss being there. Pray for our partners, the Wrights, as the teach through the first chapter of Romans over this time. It’s hard being in there on your own, having to deal with all of the problems that arise and general stress of bush living. This is also a book that can bring great understanding and growth for the church; pray for the communication and understanding of the teaching. We pray God continues to revolutionize the thinking of these Mengen people; pray with us!

Because of our Saviour,

Simon, Annika, Nya and Noah

Posted by Simon and Annika Flanagan on Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Hi Friends,

We have most things squared away now with the insurance etc. We will travel to Aus shortly and be there for around three weeks. We have a consultation for Noah and then 3 days later his operation for the tubes to be put in his ears. We then have to wait around in Aus for two weeks to have his final consultation done before we can return to PNG and the work amongst the Mengen people. (more…)

update – Jan 24th 2011

Posted by Simon and Annika Flanagan on Saturday, January 15th, 2011

Our volcanoHi friends,

Thanks so much for your continued prayers. We have been having email issues but we are now out on break at our center and are able to give you a good update on the work. The main purpose of us being out at our supply center is to get medical help for Noah. He has been having a continuous middle ear infection and our Dr’s are recommending he needs tubes (grommets) put into his ears. This is a quick and normal procedure for you all at home but for us it will mean a trip to Aus and a two week stay for checkups etc. We are in the middle of getting appointments and informing our insurance as soon as we know any details we will let you know.

Language

Language has been going well overall but we had visitors over Christmas who had an extended stay as they got stranded in our village for a week because our one pilot was sick and the plane needed a part. With having visitors and being without partners for a month we have been really busy organising meetings and dealing with problems that arise in the church and community. We are now out on medical so please pray this goes quickly so we can get back to language learning. We hope to have our first check by mid to late Feb. (more…)

Marian…

Posted by Simon and Annika Flanagan on Monday, November 15th, 2010

Hi everyone,

For those of you who have been praying, first let me say thank you. This has been an encouragement to the family here. I am sad to tell you that Marian passed away early this morning. Please be praying for the whole family. Teli, Marian’s father, is still blaming Kariang, the mother, publicly for their daughters illness, and now death. They have withstood so much persecution over the last many months and it is hard to understand why the Lord would allow this to happen to them but please be praying that the Lord would use, even their daughter’s death, to really strengthen Teli and Kariang in their walk with Him and that they would be a beacon of light amongst the village that they are living in. Simon and Dave are heading up to the village today to try to talk with and encourage them. We will update you more when we know.

Thanks for your continued prayers for Teli, Kariang and the family at this time,

Simon, Annika, Nya and Noah

update on Marian and more..

Posted by Simon and Annika Flanagan on Friday, November 12th, 2010

Hi Friends,

Yesterday I (Simon) hiked up to visit with Teli and Marian. I stayed for about 4 hrs and fortunately happened upon them killing a pig as I came to the village; they were just burning the hair off. Teli and his family along with Marian have returned home to their house with a supply of medicine for Marian to take. At the time we were concerned about them leaving the clinic but the nurse there had taken her off IV and had cleared her to return home to aid them in meeting the needs of all of the family. They have 8 kids and most of them were sleeping at the clinic, they had little food (more…)
