Translation workshop and more…

Posted by Simon and Annika Flanagan on Thursday, January 26th, 2012

A year and a half living amongst the Mengen people, about 520 days of language and culture study, ten days of a translation workshop at our support center and I have been able to translate the first chapter of the book of Ruth. These are exciting and encouraging day and I thank God for allowing me to be able to go and complete the translation workshop. We take eight steps to ensure that our translations communicate the original meaning of the source text whilst striving to stay true to the word of God.

Some work I have on my plate as we return to the bush is to translate some literacy materials into Mengen and then the rest of the book of Ruth. (more…)

Noah in recovery

Noah in recovery

Hi Friends,
Thanks so much for you prayers for Noah and us as a family. As you know Noah had his operation Friday; he has had fever and some vomiting since then and has been generally unsettled. We had the post-op exam on Tuesday and the Dr thought that there was some infection on the area were hehad  removed the adenoids. This is what is causing Noah’s fever and vomiting. We then went out to shop and Noah started vomiting again, we called the Dr again and he wanted us to come and see him the next morning. We had to call and inform our insurance and they recommended that we cancel our flight and try to fly out again on Friday if Noah is doing better. This is because PNG has little medical care and they want Noah totally healthy before we return. So right now we are delayed, but are hoping to fly out on Friday. Noah vomited last night again but doesent seem to have as much fever. Please be praying that he heals up soon and this infection goes away so that we can get back to PNG and our home ASAP. Please pray for provision in all these things, we continue to trust the Lord and are happy in Him.

Noahs operation date

What's he gonna do again Dad?

What's he gonna do again Dad?

Hi all,

Noah and I went to the ENT Dr here in Cairns today. The check up went well and the Dr confirmed that Noah’s tubes/grommets have came out. He has fluid behind the ears and needs to have surgery done again. The Dr is hopeful that this will be the last action that needs to be taken to help Noah’s ears get back to normal so he will have no further infections or discomfort. His operation is on Friday, but this time he will have his adenoids taken out; as well as having the tubes inserted in his ears. Noah has an afternoon operation and isn’t allowed to have any food all day! This will be tough for our little muncher, so pray we can keep him busy so he doesn’t get too upset. Seeing your son put under anesthetic is never fun, so please pray all goes well and that the operation will be a success. Pray he doesn’t have too much pain afterwards and that he can get back to normal life soon. We hope to return to PNG on Tuesday please pray all goes well so we can keep to that plan. Thanks for your prayers for us and Noah, we really appreciate it.

Nya & Noah update

Posted by Simon and Annika Flanagan on Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Hi praying friends,

Both kids are now doing fine and are over their virus! Thanks so much for praying.

Nya is still ill with fever and just not being herself. She vomited a bit tonight but is sleeping better. More and more it is looking like some type of virus that is also upseting her tummy. Noah is also unsettled with a slight fever and has been up quite often at night not giving us much sleep. Simon leaves tomorrow for Mengen to start the first stage of building. They guys will be preparing the ground and cementing the posts for the house; they hope to put on the bearers and continue prep work.
Pray the kids will get better soon and energy for Annika as she looks after them whilst Simon is gone bush. Please pray for safety for Simon and the other two guys as they travel and work.

Thanks for your prayers,

Simon, Annika, Nya and Noah

Here’s a little video of Noah Samuel Flanagan for all of you who havent been introduced. Perhaps this was one of his first smiles. Noah is now 8 weeks and 11 pounds 8 ounces. His ear infection and cold have all cleared up and he is doing great. Thanks for praying!

Nya rocksShortly after we returned to PNG in Oct we went be with our team mates the Laureti’s who were staying at the Wagi tribe awaiting the birth of their son Liam. We often took trips down to the river to swim in the cold water and get away from the heat. Our little ones come along too and get to sleep wherever and whenever they can.  (more…)
