One step closer!
The Lord is faithful. After 8 years of life’s adventures, literally taking us all around the world, we were able to pass a significant milestone in our journey. Ryan graduated from Multnomah Bible College completeing his Bible & Theology studies. The exciting part is that this leads us one step closer to our goal of being Tribal Church Planters in Papua Indonesia.
Here is just a brief timeline of the journey so far:
Yr 1 - Go to Multnomah for Bible Degree, starting as a Freshman.
– Take a short-term missions trip to Papua New Guinea and have your life plans flipped upside down as your view of life and God changes forever.
Yr 2 - Continue on at Multnomah for sophomore year
Yr 3 – Move to a different city and manage a door shop for two years
Yr 4 – Woo and marry a wonderful woman.
Yr 5 – Return to Multnomah for a junior year.
Yr 6 – Move to Eastern Oregon for 1 yr of missionary training
-Have a joyful son
Yr 7 – Move to Missouri for another 1 ½ yrs to complete missionary training
– Become an official missionary commissioned by New Tribes Mission
Yr 8 – Return to Multnomah for a senior year
- Have a precious little girl during final examination week.
Direction & Dwelling
Please continue to be in prayer for us that we will not lose our focus amidst all that comes our way. We know who and what God has called us to be about and trust that he will continue to work out the details as we are faithful to serve where we are at. Please also pray for us as we are planning this month to move out of Ryan’s parents house for the remaining time we have left here stateside.
Having enough finances & adding more change into our kids lives. These are some considerations needing to be carefully prayed through. Thanks
Sparks & Scares
Sparks: I know it shouldn’t surprise me that I am human and that I make mistakes, but it does. In January, I attempted to upgrade our desktop computer. Did you know that if you drop a screw into a running computer that not much good can come from that. After a loud pop and a small shower of sparks, our computer was no more. It is incredible how dependent we are on having a computer. Blessings though, just this week we were able to reload our older and slower laptop and are finally back in business (kind of )
Scares: As fast as Jordan’s vocabulary increasing, so is his imagination. You would not believe how many monsters live in his closet and in his toy pop-up tunnels. Thus comes the scares. Shortly following these “life threatening” encounters, Jordan will come running to us announcing, “I’m scary!” Ah the life of a 2 ½ yr old.
Please continue to be in prayer for us that we will not lose our focus amidst all that comes our way. We know what God has called us to be about and trust that he will continue to work out the details as we are faithful to serve where we are at.
Playing in the snow to prepare for Indonesia!
As the realization with family and friends begins to sink in that we are actually moving down to Indonesia to be tribal church planters, there is a sense of excitement, but also a feeling of loss as they anticipate our departure this year. Since this likely this is our last winter here, there is a desire by many to ensure that we are able to take advantage of it. Ryan’s family and friends have been great to encourage us to get out playing in the snow to enjoy time with them. We have gone on snow mobile rides, been out sledding, and watched the snow fall as we sit by the warmth of a fire from inside a cabin.
We each enjoy the snow differently. Just the thought of cold snow causes April’s hands and toes to turn blue instantly. Ryan loves the snow and acts like a big kid. Jordan loves eating it and playing in it, but is not quite sure why his daddy likes to throw him in every big deep snow drift he can find. Katelynn, well…she eats and sleeps while in the snow so I guess that means she enjoys it too!
This winter, as we spend this last bit of time being intentional to connect with family and friends, we are encouraged to think that our family and friends also get to be a part of planting tribal churches through their willingness to send us out and let us go.
…She is here,
This morning at 4:49 am Katelynn Hannah Beck came into the world. She was 6 lb 12 oz and 19 ¼ in long. She has a beautiful complexion and is doing great. She looks so much like April, so of course she is beautiful. April is recovering incredibly fast. Thank you so much for your so many prayers. They will even let us be going home in the morning. Jordan, as you will be able to see from the pictures, loves Katelynn a ton. I came home tonight to spend a few hours with him and to put him to bed. We are trying to be very sensitive to him and his needs as well. Thanks for being such a huge part of this incredible miracle of birth through prayer.
Jordan’s 2nd Birthday
Jordan turned 2 on Saturday the 29th. We celebrated in barn yard fashion with hay rides, tractors, hay bails to climb on, and even a live duck to chase around. It was fun to see Jordan feel so loved and cared for by many. When we are over in Indonesia in 4 years from now and Jordan wonders whether or not Washington State is a place he could call home, pictures will be great reminders of all the people who love him so much.

…Back in the saddle again
It is incredible to think back over all the places the Lord has taken us this past summer. From Alaska, to Indonesia, eastern Oregon, and currently northern Washington. We are very tired and desire to be back in the saddle again. It is amazing how much having a routine can make the difference between being utterly exhausted and simply taking things one step at a time. Life for us seems to twist and turn at any given moment. One thing is for sure though. The Lord is a constant. He is enough for us. This is the saddle that we want to ride off into the sunset in.

We’re off
There is a very good chance that as you read this we are in Indonesia. The Lord is really giving us an amazing opportunity while we are here to explore, serve, and love others.
We left Portland Saturday July 7 at around 11:30 am PST and will not be in Indo until Monday at around 1:30 pm. We are asking the Lord to allow Jordan to sleep long and hard and that during his awake times he will be happy being confined to a small space.
Through our expereiences on this journey the Lord is brining us through, we look forward to continuing to see God’s heart revealed for reaching lost peoples,
Indonesia, here we come!
Our church leadership has wisely suggested that we head down to visit the country of Indonesia before we commit to a lifetime of service there. We will be flying down to the eastern most province of the country on the island of Papua.
There are many things we hope to accomplish through this preliminary survey trip:
1-Visit with New Tribes Mission Leadership to make sure that our partnership with them and the local Indonesian church is a good fit.
2-To visit a couple of existing tribal works that missionaries are serving in to get a feel for the people, culture, & ministry
3-See first hand New Tribes Mission’s National Culture & Language training center that we will be at for the first 18 months living in country.
Please pray for us as our trip is up and coming in less than 7 days. We will be traveling from July 7-July 25.
