As we boarded the Cessna 206 and headed interior to the Siawi Tribe the range of emotions that we experienced are nearly indescribable.  While in the air we had 75 minutes to process the years of time, investment, heartache, blood, sweat, tears, and victories that have taken place there.  It was SO humbling to witness the growth of the church both numerically and in maturity.  The Lord has been beyond good in allowing us and YOU to play a significant part in seeing this church established!  As you have given to our support you have invested in something that precious few have invested in, an unreached people group hearing the name of Christ for the first time!!  You know, the stock market can come and go but nothing can ever snatch away the souls of these tribal people who, now, eternally belong to God!  Good investment, guys!!  You were wise.  Good job!

The Siawi Church now has 4 elders, 3 deacons and 3 missionaries that they are sending deeper into the jungle to tell others of Christ.  The Bible translation will be completed in December 2012.  All the missionaries are moved out of the tribe with the exception of Linda Krieg who will stay these last few months to finish the translation.

Carrie and I also spent a week in a coastal town where I was the speaker for the annual missionary gathering.  I spoke 6 times hoping to teach, challenge and inspire the front line jungle missionaries.  Again, I wish you could have been there.  These men and women are our heroes!  They came out of the jungle (in some cases) bruised and battered physically and spiritually but fully determined to “stay the course”.  These individuals are truly committed to the cause of Christ.

This Memorial Day we remembered the sacrifice of our  veterans as we all appreciate the cause they fought for and the utlimate sacrifice they gave for us.  During this day I also personally thanked the Lord for the veterans of the church.  They, too have given even to the point of death for the cause of Christ.  We have heroes all around us don’t we?

Please pray for Carrie and I as we train new missionary candidates on a daily basis at New Tribes Bible Institute.

Please pray for our continued financial support.  We have been with NTM for nearly 30 years and many of our supporters have gone to be with the Lord.  It is necessary for us to replace this support.  As we train missionary candidates the Siawi story will be replicated many times over in our student’s lives.

Serving together with you,
Ron and Carrie Lindsey

Headed to PNG! 3/2011

mountain_9.2In just three weeks Carrie and I will be returning to Papua New Guinea! It has been 9 years since we left the country that became home to us.  It was there that our kids were born and raised and where our lives were shaped.  It was while ministering to the Siawi tribal people that our world view was established, and our commitment to unreached tribal people with the Gospel was etched on our hearts.

In our absence, the Lord has raised up a strong church in that remote setting. The current missionaries have done well at disciplining the believers.  The translation will be completed this year and deacons and elders will be recognized for the first time while we are there! God has been so gracious to the Siawi’s!  The missionaries will be vacating the tribe in 2011.  At that time the airstrip will slowly be reclaimed by the jungle, and the church will be fully in the hands of the tribal people.  Though visits will still be possible it will involve a difficult hike from a neighboring tribe.

We were there at the inception of the work and labored to make the airstrip so that we could live with our partners in the jungle and begin the missionary work and now the airstrip is closing. The airstrip was simply a tool towards that end.  Now, with a mature church firmly established the airstrip has served its purpose.

As the missionaries phase out of the tribe please pray that this tribal church will function in a way that glorifies Christ as they are tucked away under the jungle canopy of the upper Sepik River of Papua New Guinea.  Pray for Carrie and I as we desire to be a blessing to our tribal friends there.  It will be so fun to speak some of the Siawi tribal language again!
It will be an emotional visit for us.

While in PNG I will also be the main speaker at the annual missionary gathering. Please pray!  I am finalizing my messages and will be speaking from the book of Philippians. These missionaries are our heroes and we really want to be an encouragement to them!  These guys are working in some of the hardest places on the face of the earth and we want to bring a little joy into their lives!

Carrie and I will also get to visit the missionary support center for the Highlands region.  This is where we served as dorm parents for our last years on the field.  We have many dear friends there- both missionaries and Papua New Guineans.  I believe that I will be speaking there as well.

This is going to be an awesome trip!!  I sure wish we could take you with us.  Many of you have been part of our support team for 27 years and I wish you could enjoy this experience of witnessing the established church first hand.  As the ones who have benefited from your gracious support please let Carrie and I say THANK YOU! Good job, guys!  You have been faithful and I believe God is pleased with what WE have done as a team.  Thank you. Thank you.

We will be in PNG March 1st -21st.  We are currently in the process of buying our tickets. The field will cover my ticket because I am speaking but we still need to raise $1650 for Carrie’s air fare.  A huge thank you to those who have already given towards it. The tickets are booked and we are going no matter what but pray with us for this last expense.

We love you guys,
Ron & Carrie Lindsey

The Joy of Salvation

Thank You for being a part of the Moi story! Rich and Karen Brown started their missionary training here at New Tribes Bible Institute. (www.ntbi.org) Now they are church planting in Indonesia. Together let us rejoice in the fruits of the harvest! Thank you for supporting us as we serve here, training the next generation to go to the unreached peoples of the world.

Excerpt    from    missionary newsletter: It is IDN_Moi__024with great joy that we share about the wonderful work God has done here. We, along with the Moi Bible teachers, were able to individually follow-up with most of the 110 or so Moi who had faithfully listened to the seven weeks of evangelistic Bible teaching. Over 80 of those    have    given    clear testimonies of salvation. What a praise as the Moi church has grown by nearly 200%! The total amount of believers now
makes up more than half of the population of adults and older children within a full days hike from Daboto, our home. Many years    ago    the    prophet Habakkuk wrote, “Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.” (Habakkuk 1:5) He’s right. Not only have we heard about it, but we’ve seen it with our own eyes and still we can hardly believe it.

Fall Semester 2010

August is an exciting time of year for us as NTBI kicks into high gear and we begin the coming yearʼs ministry of teaching and working with young people.

We started with our annual staff picnic where we had a chance to catch up with all the staff members, eat too much food, and be encouraged by the things God was doing in each of our lives.

Student leaders then arrived a few days later, we enjoyed being a part of the training for them. We arranged for some fun team builders, went on a camping trip with them, and enjoyed getting to know them as they prepared to become student leaders.

-Please pray for wisdom for Ron in his leadership roles.

-Please pray for wisdom as we meet with two young married couples as they attend school here training for missions.

-Praise for all the tribal people who are hearing God’s wordP1020059

Student Testimony

Recently, I met a missionary to Brazil who described herself as the “product of a missionary.”  In her native country of Peru, this woman had been introduced to Christ through her friendship with a foreign missionary.  Her statement made me reflect on my life and the influences that have shaped it.  While I can’t say that my salvation experience was the “product of a missionary,” my growth as a Christian and my decision to be a tribal church planter have definitely been influenced by my relationships with missionaries.

It all began at New Tribes Bible Institute, where I learned what it really means to live the Christian life.  For the first time, I heard that the Christian walk is not about what I do, but instead is all about what Christ has already done.  But, what made these truths come alive to me was my relationships with the staff at NTBI.  As I observed their lives and got to know them, I learned how to apply those truths  in my own Christian walk.  I heard that dependence on Christ must be central in the Christian’s life,  but they showed me how necessary it truly is.  Without their friendship, those amazing truths would have remained mere head knowledge.  And, I would have considered myself inadequate for the Christian life – or for missionary work.

Thankfully, God’s use of missionaries in my life didn’t end when I left NTBI.  After that, I had the privilege of receiving two more years of missions and language training with New Tribes Mission.  During this time, I learned so much about culture, tribal church planting, and language learning principles.  But, again, what made those two years of training so profitable?  It was the friendships I developed with NTM’s staff.  In class, we learned how important relationships are in tribal church planting.  As our teachers developed relationships with us, we came to believe that relationships are vital.  In class, we learned how important discipleship is for the growth of a believer.  As our teachers discipled us through their lives, we became convinced of this truth.

Today, I’m 27 years old and will soon be in Mozambique, Africa, planting a church among a people group who has never heard about the amazing relationship that God desires with them.  Do I feel adequate for this task?  No, but I am convinced that Christ is adequate.  Do I think I can love a people who will most likely prove unlovable?  No, but I know that Christ can love them through me.  In myself, I know I’m not adequate for the task ahead, but I am so grateful for those missionaries who invested their lives in mine and, by their example, taught me to rely on Him.  I guess I am the “product of a missionary,” after all!

Ready to reach the world with Christ

New Tribes Bible Institute graduation was in May.  It was a great ceremony, we honored 78 graduates and 80% of them have a desire to become missionary candidates with New Tribes Mission. These pictures are just a small representation of the class.  Please pray for David and Danielle, Savannah,  Shawna, Colton and the others as they fan out to the far reaches of the world for Christ.

Ron and Carrie

Wow, it sure is good to take a breath! We have reached our semester end and the flurry of events that accompany it are behind us. Carrie and I both agree that this was one of the best and most rewarding years that we have had at New Tribes Bible Institute. We have felt spiritually healthy, the staff have been united and pulling the same direction and the student body was stellar! We feel happy and hope we look happy!
Several weeks ago we enjoyed our end of the year Staff Appreciation Dinner. Our school rented the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory (the Domes). We enjoyed the three themes of tropical jungle, an African desert, and a themed floral garden. With the sacrifices that our staff make year round this was a well deserved treat.
I shared with our staff from, 1 Samuel 30, where David emphasizes that the role of the front line worker and the support worker are equal in the eyes of the Lord. As the story goes, David was pursuing the Amalekites with 600 of his best men. In the process 200 grew tired and stopped at the Bezor Raven and “stayed by the stuff” (1 Sam 30:9-10). When David successfully returned from the battle he said that the plunder would be shared equally with those who battled and those who stayed behind. When applied to mission work the principal is that we are one equal team laboring for the same cause! We are thankful for our staff and thankful for you!
Together we are reaching tribal people with Christ.
