Merry Christmas!

Posted by Roland and Jinni Shafer Jr. in News Article on Dec 24th, 2011 | Discuss This Post |   Share

We are very grateful for family, friends and especially for Jesus Christ Our Savior, Who was willing to leave the comforts and glory of heaven, and come to earth to teach us, love us and show us the way to eternal life!

Our family (Roland, Jinni, Moriah & RJ – up from Bible School) had the privilege of sharing a Christmas drama in one of the communities up here. It was a special blessing for all of us. We also had 2 performances on campus, and Jinni’s drama students presented several songs and a drama. Below are pictures from that event.

Once again we have been overwhelmed with the generosity of God’s people, and from strangers.  Surprise gifts of cash have appeared and yesterday 3 boxes of groceries plus a bag of gifts arrived from the local “Love Committee”.

We are humbled and glad to be here in Canada, being a small part of God’s big job or reaching tribal people with the good news of Jesus!    May your days be Merry & Bright. Peace and goodwill to you this Christmas!

MoCakeToday we celebrated our oldest daughter’s birthday and her Born Again birthday (they fall on the same day)!

It is amazing just how  much our little “Mo-Peach” has grown. Here’s a couple pics from her breakfast party time…

Candles on the pan-CAKE-s and Gifts galore.

We had a great time of thanking God for her life and for all of you who have made it possible for us to celebrate this momentous time, up here in Canada!

We praise the Lord for your prayers and support. Thank you all so very much for your partnership with us.

October Highlights

We are grateful to be serving with the NTM team in Canada as our family continues to settle in to our new environment.

We have been here for two months now. Due to your faithful partnership we remain encouraged and enabled to minister to tribal missionaries and be involved in God’s gospel work around the world. We thank the Lord for each of you!! Here is some glimpses of our activities over the past four weeks…

MORIAH Dentist appointment

After a checkup and making a return appointment, Moriah returned to the dentist in Hanover to get three of her four cavities filled. It was hard on her and she came to the “waiting room” in tears. Last filling should be happening in November.

ELIJAH Played his 1st game

Elijah’s hard work in practice paid off last Thursday. He played in his 1st ever, official Jr game. The players from his school were all students in grades 9 and 10. He played linebacker on defense. Offensively he played left tackle a couple plays and number two back for others. He was able to make the scrimmage line once when he carried the ball.

SUSAN attending AWANA

We have been able to get Susan connected to a ride, into the next town, so she can continue her pursuit of the AWANA Timothy Award. She has a lot of work to get through and she is working hard. We are grateful for those helping us with transportation, since they are being a blessing to Susan – so much.

ACADEMY Field trips

Roland and Jinni both were chaperones to separate field trips, on the same day. Jinni and the High Schoolers, along with Mr. J.P. went to the “World Concerns” convention. Jinni reported it was eye-opening for her as well as the students. Roland was one of two drivers for the Elementary grades to an historic site, from early Ontario. A new museum there was not open, but there were kind people who escorted the students around explaining early times in this town site from the 1914′s era.

1/4 inch of SNOW

We had our first reminder of the fact that Winter is on the way when we awakened to find snow on the deck and car windows. Although there was not a lot of snow it was a great joy to hear Moriah and Susan be excited to see the cold and white stuff. We know winter is on the way and so more SNOW!!!

In addition to all this, while we’ve been here, the Siar church has been “born”; the Dao believers have grown in their faith; the Moi believers have seen their congregation grow in number and faith; A long time servant, church-planter in Brazil, went to be with the Lord; missionary prayer letters received by NTM Canada were prayed through by NTM Canada staff.

Thank you for your partnership in the gospel ministry around the world!

our team for His glory,

Fall is Upon Us!

As we traveled north to visit Sainte Marie Among the Hurons, I tried to capture some of the fall colors zooming by.  This is the result:

Fall rushing by on our field trip

We traveled with the 7th & 8th students to Sainte Marie Among the Hurons.

You can check it out here.

and I posted a new album with the pictures we took on our website. For some reason though, the slideshow doesn’t work, so you’ll just have to look at them one at a time. While that was fun and historical, something better and more eventful is occurring this Friday – see the update. Another tribal group is going to hear the gospel for the first time.  We are praying for many new brothers and sisters in Christ!

This is the reason we were willing to leave our friends and family and move to Canada (or Indonesia): to be a part of getting the Good News of Jesus Christ to tribal people, who do not have a chance to hear and decide for themselves … UNLESS….?!?! someone like you or me decides to go and tell them.

Currently we have 22 students going through the training. There are 21 students in the Academy where I teach. 6 of them have parents in the training, the rest are staff kids.  I get to have them all in drama, which is great!  Yesterday ended the intramural soccer season.  Here are the participants with their Prize Pops! Red – 1st, Blue – 2nd, Green – 3rd.

100_1127100_1128Elijah tried out for the football team and made it!  Football is not as popular as Rugby up here, but 52 kids tried out and 36 were chosen.  They have their first game on Friday and he might even get to play, as apparently 15 kids did not show up for practice yesterday.  He hurt his knee and wanted to make sure it was broken, so Roland took him to Niagara to get xrayed….since our insurance would cover it. Thankfully he is just sore and will be until November no doubt!      Girls and I have been busy canning and making salsa & applesauce.  Friday we get to go pick plums and apples.  A farmer friend of ours gave us a bunch of meat, so we have bacon, roast, burger, and pork chops to last into the winter.  Another friend has been supplying honey!  We are well taken care of.

Roland has plenty of projects and work for the future.  He is glad to know the other IT guy will be returning from a visit back to his home country at the end of October!  Roland makes himself available to help with everyone’s personal needs, as well as helping with the biggest current project:  the remodeling of the main office.  Here are some photos of things he is dealing with.  Please don’t ask me to explain them!  All I know is that there are 38 wires and only 24 slots so more slots are needed.  This year money is tight for projects, so although there is a need….trusting God to take care of things like He always does!

Thank You for following what God is doing with NTM and us!  Let us know what’s going on with you!

oh by the way…my husband is a genius, and we had internet IN THE CAR on the way to our field trip.  Technology is amazing.  I had a computer, phone, magic jack & invertor to plug them all into!
