Thanksgiving

Posted by in Uncategorized on Nov 20th, 2007 | Discuss This Post |   Share

As you take time this season to enjoy family, friends and good food, remember to say a prayer for those who are spending their Thanksgiving in an isolated location away from family, friends and turkey for the sake of the Gospel!

May your Thanksgiving and Christmans be blessed with many reasons to Praise God for His goodness.

We appreciate your prayers for our family and ministry. This week while the students are on break we are trying to get a bit of remodling done on the house. Our home is an essential part of our ministry with New Tribes Mission and we are trying to make it even more useful by finishing off the basement and putting in a second driveway and back patio. Pray that God will provide the funds needed for these projects. We would love to see it finished before Spring semester ends so we can use it for our many student gatherings.

Our weekly meetings continue to grow, and we are averaging 40 students. Please keep praying for us as we minister to this group and to the many students one on one throughout the weeks to come.

Pray for Corrie and Ben as they are expecting "Amelia Catherine" in February, and for little Simon as he grows up to be a good big brother. Also for the sale of their house to help pay off their school debt.

Pray for Ricky as he is seeking the Lord’s will concerning staying in Lynchburg or moving to Florida. He has had an interview with Liberty University as a landscaper, which would open the doors for him to finish his degree debt free, but is this God’s will? If so, pray that they choose him.

Pray for Becky as she seeks a full-time job to help pay off her student loans…her goal is missions just like Ricky, Ben and Corrie.

Praise for Susie being accepted into the New Tribes Bible Institute in Waukesha, WI. She will be moving up there in January. Pray for God’s provision for tuition and living expenses. She is asking God for a laptop and a car. She is working two jobs and saving all her money just to pay her tuition. We are so proud of her commitment.

Pray for Sumner, who is searching for direction in his life. Pray God reveals his plan and that Sumner follows it.

Keep Richard’s foot in your prayers, it still bothers him some.

THANKS for GIVING you time and prayers for us.

In Christ,

Richard & Laurie Schweinsberg

Posted by in Uncategorized on Oct 9th, 2007 | Discuss This Post |   Share

Prayer Request:

Partnership Developement: We need partners to help us with the ministry, that is, people who will pray for our ministry and people who will help support it financially.

Richard is still not 100% healed from his accident this summer, please pray for a full recovery, and for wisdom finding a doctor for a second opinion on what is happening. His ankle is still swelling and discolored.

Our kids are just about all grown up, pray that they will be sensitive to God’s leading in theirs lives and ministry. They are all here in Lynchburg at this time.

Corrie, Ben & Simon are excited about the new baby due in February. The are hoping to sell their house. Their future hopes are to be missionaries, pray God keeps that vision before them.

Ricky is sub-contracting various jobs, working to pay off his school debts and praying about how God would use him in missions.

Becky is graduating from Liberty University and looking for a good job to quickly pay off her school loans so she too can head to the mission field.

Sumner is working full-time. He just moved into his own place with some roomates and is hoping to start college in Jan.

Susie is working at Papa John’s saving all her money to go to Bible School in Wisconsin. She is interviewing for a second job this week, praying about working 50-60 hrs/week.

If you are still with us in reading this letter we want to say THANK YOU for your love, prayer and support!

Fall 2007 Ministry News

Posted by in Uncategorized on Oct 9th, 2007 | Discuss This Post |   Share

You can’t imagine how excited we are about the things taking place in our ministry these days! God is bringing about a great awareness of the need to reach the unreached people groups of the world.

We are having opportunities to minister to college students in a variety of ways, challenging them to step up and step out to reach a lost and dying world.

You might be wondering what in the world we are doing and we want to keep you informed.

After returning from a month long missions trip this summer to South America where we led a team of 20 people into a remote tribe to help build houses for three missionaries, we headed for Pensylvania, with a group of college students from Liberty University to give them an opportunity to experience a bit of tribal missions in a program called "Wayumi." You will be hearing more about this in future letters.

Since the Fall semester began in August, God has kept us actively involved with students at Liberty University and the surrounding area through:

GoTribal CoffeeHouse - A fellowship time in our home on Monday evenings. We are averaging around 30 people at these meetings and it is exciting to see how God is working in their lives.

Missions Movie/Game Nights - We host meetings on campus every other Thursday night to bring missions minded students together to fellowship and have fun. It gives us the opportunity to get to know them better and for them to make new friends interested in missions.

LAMP (Liberty Missions Aviation People) – Once a month we meet with students in the aviation dept. at Liberty and encourage and challenge them with the need for Missions Pilots.

Next Steps - Once per semester we are involved in a weekend retreat to help students interested in missions find out what steps they need to take to get them from where they are to the mission field.

Liberty Missions Conference - Once per semester we are involved in the missions conference at Liberty University. We set up a booth and speak in seminars during the week. We also have the opportunity to speak in dorms.

Mentoring – God has opened the door to mentor several young people, we are averaging about 8 students each that we mentor one on one with. Spending time to get to know them and help guide them on their path to follow the Great Commission.

Church Meetings - As God opens the doors to local churches we share the exciting opportunities in New Tribes Mission to serve short term or as career missionaries.

School Ministries - We also speak in local Christian schools and colleges, when given the opportunity.

Summit trip to Brazil

Posted by in Uncategorized on Aug 30th, 2006 | Discuss This Post |   Share

What an amazing summer! We spent a month leading a short term missions trip to the Amazon Jungle of Brazil.  We had 21 team members who gave their time and money to build a school house for tribal people. It was such a great experience for all of us.

We traveled 12 hours by riverboat down a tributary of the Amazon River. We slept in hammocks on the boat and Laurie cooked in a tiny kitchen, feeding 30 people 3 meals a day.  Richard supervised the work project and put in a hard days work himself the whole time we were there. We are excited to have been a part of a program that will provide for the education of the tribal people in Brazil. Thanks to all who prayed for us and made the trip possible.
