Last week we went house hunting in our soon-to-be new home out in Northeast Thailand. Great news! Lord willing, we’ll be moving into a brand new house that should be ready just as we finish up our language study in Chiang Mai. God definitely went before us on this trip, allowing us to get a lot accomplished in our short four days. We hammered out more details of our team strategy with co-workers Mike and Sandy, we participated in a village activity and looked at housing options. More details about the house will follow in our February Newsletter. Please take a second to view our pictures at Picasa Web Albums!

Silk and Pottery Factories
Posted by Ric and Sharon on Wednesday, December 29th, 2010Today we visited a pottery factory, a silk factory and an antiques store. Just like the other days this week you will see the pictures we like best below. You can check out all the pictures at our web albums. Thanks and enjoy the pictures!

Doesn't she look like a teacher??

This job must be painstaking.

"Krew" is teacher in Thai

This "factory" was pretty much there just to fix mistakes from the real factory.

Sharon loves the elephants. More at our picasa web albums.

This long plate is used to serve sauces... Like PF Changs.

Making silk. There are pictures of the entire process in the extra pictures.

Sharon loved it all... even though she was fighting an upset stomach.
If you want to see more check them all out.
We’re in Bangkok!
Posted by Ric and Sharon on Monday, October 4th, 2010We’re in Bangkok and waiting for our flight to Chiang Mai! We were able to sleep a lot onĀ our seven hour flight into the country, which is what we were praying for! Continue praying the rest of our flight goes well and that we’ll get all our luggage to the next leg okay. A few of our plastic totes were pretty beat up but the luggage straps and the locks kept our stuff from exploding all over the place. Here are some photos of our trip over:

Off to Chicago!
Posted by Ric and Sharon on Monday, September 20th, 2010Our number arrived! Tomorrow morning at five AM we’ll crawl out to the car dragging an overnight bag. Four hours later we’ll slap a two inch thick pile of paperwork on the desk at the Thai embassy and the waiting game will begin again. At least this step has a pretty predictable outcome: we’ll definitely get the visas. Just pray it will be a short, painless process and that we’ll come back to Lansing safely. If you’ve forgotten what our faces look like already here’s a picture to enjoy:

Chautauqua Lake in New York.
UPDATE – September 21 4:00 PM
Everything went according to plan this morning. We arrived at the consulate just as the guard opened the doors chased a homeless guy off the steps. We walked out fifteen minutes later with a receipt to pick up our visas in two days. So immediately after arriving we turned around and drove right back out of the city. Pretty boring trip. We’ll have to repeat the entire ordeal later this week. We’ll post about it here.
UPDATE – September 25 2:00 PM
Went to Chicago yesterday and picked up our visas with Sharon’s parents and sister. It was a great trip! Check out our photos in our latest post: Our Visas are Here!

Life in Chiang Mai, Thailand
Posted by Ric and Sharon on Thursday, February 18th, 2010Here is a video done by Grace International School designed to show foreigners on their way to Thailand what it will be like to live in the city. It’s a great resource and it has helped us understand some things despite the fact we just visited. We will be living in Chiang Mai for two years to learn Thailand’s language and culture before moving to a more remote area without access to these luxuries. We’ll have to enjoy Chiang Mai while we can!
Ric and Sharon Bruce On a journey with you to Thailand
For your viewing pleasure I’ve placed dots and drawn arrows all over a map of Thailand illustrating the places we’ve visited. Pictures and captions show you what the place looks like and explains when we went, why we traveled there and for how long we stayed. Don’t miss the small text in the lower corner of each caption linking you to the pictures of that event.
