On a journey with you to Thailand

Thai Lesson Video

Posted by Ric and Sharon on Mar 20th, 2011 in video | 3 Comments »

This video shows you what our lessons are looking like these days. We play videos of everyday activities we saw in the community and our teacher dubs over them in Thai with what is happening in the video (step-by-step description of the actions). For example in this video he is saying something like, “The other morning at the restaurant a woman cleaned off a table. She began by putting the menu back then wiping the table while lifting the glasses. She then put the glasses away.” Watch the video at youtube or embedded on our website.

After this we also record descriptions of the setting in which this activity is taking place for example, “At this restaurant there are tables where people who are eating sit. They order food from a server. This restaurant serves Thai food and is close to the moat in Chiang Mai.” Or whatever. Here is the text of this video typed out in Thai:

  1. Tim: Yeah, you really have to get your ear used to a new language by listening to it for hours before you can even pick out the individual words. Otherwise it will just sound like nonsense. Thanks a lot for your prayers!
Dan: Thanks for the kind comment sir. Great to hear from you. We will be praying for you there and are trusting the Lord with you. -Ric and Sharon

Appreciate the Thai lesson video, and trip to the temple video. I appreciate your hearts in ALL the effort, work, and sacrifices you both are making to be equipped to communicate the gospel to these people. Reading twitters reveals a little different angle on some of what is involved w/ learning a culture. I admire and commend you both. It is sobering to watch the activities the people go through @ the temple, I presume to either gain their salvation or help maintain their religion?? Thanks for your faithfulness. I’ll be praying for you. Pray for new business in the building arena. I feel Lord is definitely in it…really need His blessings and provision.

Gees. I did not understand a word he said. I felt like he just kept repeating himself over and over. I assume I am wrong. Hope you guys are doing well and praying for you both.
