At the St. Johns, the Hospital in Springfield

A vine swing once existed at Ha Ha Tonka State Park in Missouri. It no longer does, as I effectively took it down in one fell swoop. Translation: I was swinging on a vine and it snapped while I was twenty feet off the ground. When I landed I dislocated and broke a few bones in my wrist.

The good part, I suppose, is that my family (wife, aunt, uncle, grandparents) were with me and were able to take me to the nearest hospital. Unfortunately, the local hospital was unable to help, so they sent me two hours away to Springfield to see a hand specialist.

This was the harness they used to "reduce" my hand.I didn’t see a hand specialist, but I did get to have my hand "reduced" which was a little neat. The nurse sedated me and the doctor put my hand into a harness that held it by the fingers. he then proceeded to pull, yank, stretch, and crank my wrist until the bones popped into place, fixing my dislocated wrist.

This happened Sunday night and I’m still waiting for surgery to fix the broken bones in my wrist. You can pray that the surgery would go smoothly and be scheduled soon. We are waiting for a call from the doctor to find out what the next step is.

We will keep you updated with pictures and news articles when we know more. Check out our existing photos here.

Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday the 13th at 6:30 AM. I will have a screw and a few pins put into my wrist.

Update 2007-11-14 @ 1:06 P.M.
My wrist surgery went well yesterday. I was under general anesthesia for a few hours while the doctor installed a pin and screw to help the fracture/dislocation heal. Thanks for your prayers and encouragement.
The next step is X-rays and a cast in two weeks followed by 6 weeks in the cast and rehab to heal the damaged tendons.
