Highway Here We Come
Summer is officially here at NTBI. Students have pretty much vacated the building. Most are home working and sharing what they have learned while studying the Bible fulltime. We pray they will have a productive summer; in spiritual as well as material ways.
We are headed to FL in a few days, looking forward to stopping along the way to connect with partners and friends who we have not seen for some time…17 years, 22 years…thankfully not too many have been that long. Lord willing we will stop in OH, KY, FL, MO, IN in the next 6 weeks.
We pray that the Lord would allow us to be a blessing to those we see and that the work the Lord is doing in Jackson in the students’ hearts, along with what He is doing around the world in the tribes will excite hearts.
How we pray that more people will get involved in reaching the 2,500 remaining UPG’s. NTM’s goal is to leave each tribe their own New Testament like the one pictured here…from the Iteri in PNG. They can now read and write their own language (like John 3:16 here) and have their own Elders who are teaching the next generation about our great Savior and God.
We know this is big on the heart of God…is it on your heart? Are you involved?
46 Pass through “The Gate”
“As you pass through the gate, will you continue to believe?” That was the essence of the question posed to our 46 NTBI Jackson graduates by Rich Bruce, NTBI Faculty speaker. Selected by the class, Rich challenged each one to continue to walk in the truth they now have; the truth about God; the truth of who they are in Christ.

Going Before the Throne of Grace?
As we approach the end of our 28th semester at NTBI we would so appreciate your prayers for the following:
-
That Graduation will go well and be a great encouragement to our students and their families and friends attending. Many will be traveling quite a distance to come and be with their son or daughter. We want to honor them for what they have accomplished the past two years.
- We have two seminars to attend shortly after graduation; “Ministry Partnerhsip Development” and “Conflict Equals Opportunity”. These are ongoing training for NTM staff. Pray that we will be attentive and benefit from both.
- Shirley and I will be traveling to FL about June 1 to go and help clean and take care of my Dad’s house. No doubt it will be a challenging time as we go through much of my parent’s belongings and wrap up things in the house I grew up in. We would really appreciate your prayers for us to remain focused on the Lord and be a blessing to my brother and sister and their families.
- We will then travel to Branson to meet our children for a July 4th reunion. We are really looking forward to having time together, our first time since Dad’s funeral.
- Thank you so much for praying for us in these things. Please feel free to email us or call anytime we can pray for you. rex_schaffner@ntm.org or shirley_schaffner@ntm.org or 517-795-7490.
WAYUMI Trip Quite the Success

Students trying to get some words from a real live "Joti" man
What a week it was! 81 of us transported to the middle of PA for a week, hearing from experienced church planters and “visiting” a tribal village, equipped with real “live” tribal people. Wow, talk about challenging. And that is exactly what we hope for. Students saw first hand the challenges of learning a new language and trying to understand how different people think. They heard from NTM folks who have actually planted churches in VEN and PNG. Each step of the way was explained in common sense terms so we could see that reaching the unreached is

WAYUMI Here We Come
The week of April 25 will find our group of about 85 or so in the mountains of central PA. Mornings students will be in the “Intro to Tribal Missions” class, hearing from two experienced tribal church planters. Afternoons will find them in a replica tribal village, interacting with a “Yanomami” woman and a “Joti” man, trying to discover words and investigating new cultures. It is quite the experience. If it sounds interesting, you can be a part of it with a group from your church. Check it out at http://www.ntm.org/missiontrips/wayumi.php.
We appreciate your prayers for safe travel and a great week together with the missionaries at WAYUMI, and that many of our students will see the possibilitites available throughout the world and be willing to take the Gospel to the un-reached. Thank you so much.
Can We Do More of These?

That question is asked a number of times after we took the field trip last week. The day saw us travel about an hour away to visit some folks who serve their community by
Making NTBI known…two recent events
A couple of weeks ago, we hosted a number of local youth groups for a special Wednesday evening meeting. We ordered 45 pizzas and thankfully had 5 left over. After scarfing the pizza, we moved into the auditorium and heard from our own Rich Bruce, who was involved in church planting in VEN. He challenged the young people to consider how they will spend their lives…the only life they have. Will they live it to count for eternity’s sake, or live it for their own pleasure? It was quite the challenge. May God raise up new laborers for the mission field from those who came.
University Ladies Group
Last week, we hosted a group of 28 ladies for a luncheon and a tour. They were here for almost 3 hours. We had an excellent opportunity to share with them about NTBI and what NTM is all about. We showed a short video… Reachable, about a tribe in VEN and the couple who planted that church. We followed up with Q and A and a tour. Many eyes were opened to what God is doing to reach the still 2,500 unreached people groups. We trust God will use some of these dear ladies to spread the word!
Spring Break is Here

Boy, is it ever quiet. Within an hour of classes ending this morning, the halls were very empty! Many students going home for the Spring Break; others going to friend’s houses; a small number staying here, working on homework. No matter, we know that they will all enjoy the slower pace. What a joy to hear of
