The Beginning
It has been 5 weeks now since I left Omaha, NE to come work here in Papua New Guinea. Many things are familiar from my childhood in the country and a lot of my Pidgin (the national language) is coming back to me. I had heard it a lot when I was here before and could follow most conversations. But I had never tried to use it much so I wasn’t fluent when I left the country 8 years ago. So, right now I am working on mastering Pidgin.
Within 3 days of arriving in the country I had the privilege of going into the a tribal location to help new missionaries put up there house there. It was amazing to be a part of a team of missionaries in there helping with the project. The best part was seeing us all working together to help the family start their ministry.
Since then I spent a week in field orientation followed by two weeks of Pidgin warmup exercises and getting to know the villages and families surrounding the NTM center I live on. Now this week I have been able to really start into Pidgin study and spending 8 hour days working on grasping the intricacies of the Pidgin language and the national cultural.
It is my desire to carry the Good News to a tribe that hasn’t heard the Truth. In the end though, no good work is of any value to me unless it is done in fellowship with Christ. Keep your eyes on our Savior! And if you have a few moments, please say a prayer for me too.
