About
Pete and Leah Humphreys have served with New Tribes Mission for over 33 years, 25 of them in South America. Arriving in Paraguay in 1978, the Humphreys invested 17 years among the Manjúi people, where they served with a church-planting team and the remaining years in full-time leadership.
Their responsibilities included cross-cultural communication of the Gospel message, development of a Bible-teaching curriculum and discipleship of local leaders.
Men, women and young people among the Manjúi responded in faith to the invitation of God to be reconciled to Him, and today there is a small and maturing church, with itinerant missionaries visiting regularly.
In more recent years Pete and Leah have been involved in a full-time leadership and consultant ministry among their NTM colleagues in Paraguay as well as in other countries. As the result of mentoring faithful men and women, Pete and Leah have been able to work themselves out of a job in Paraguay. As of March 2004, they were reassigned to member care with NTM in Canada. Among their passions are leadership development and shepherding, tribal church planting, and missionary care.
Pete and Leah have been married for thirty-five years, and are blessed with 5 kids who are grown and out of the nest. They also have 12 grandchildren, and lots of pictures they like to show anyone who will pause long enough to provide an audience.
Leah likes to spend her time in studying, creative writing, and public speaking. Pete is an avid outdoorsman who also enjoys being with people, working with his hands, and playing sports.
“…for we are laborers together with God.” I Cor. 3:9a
Our Purpose at Still Waters is to provide an opportunity for NTM leaders and missionaries in crisis to experience a season of physical, emotional, and spiritual refreshment through the ministry of the Word, the comfort of the Spirit, and fellowship with His people. “…be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Rom. 12:2b
Physical Refreshment
Often, the most urgent need is physical rest. This would be a period of time when there would be no schedule or energy demands so the body can be refreshed and strengthened. God has provided a beautiful loft apartment, separate from our home, where a couple can stay and get this kind of rest out here in the country.
Emotional Refreshment
Time for open reflection, meditation and fellowship promotes a condition of emotional well-being. When a couple is thoroughly rested, they are ready to talk about the struggles they are going through.
Spiritual Refreshment
God desires to restore and strengthen a Christ-like perspective by renewal of the mind through the Word. Often these couples just need to be reminded of God’s power, His plan for them through suffering, and the hope and comfort that is always there for them.
