The first of March we spent time with Katie and Paul, and Tim before Katie and Paul left for their Mission Trip. Before sending them off we shared a sweet time of prayer together with Paul’s parents. We prayed specifically for Katie to have comfort in travel, as she was 31 weeks pregnant. We also asked for safety while in the country they were visiting. The Lord blessed our prayers in many ways. Katie later shared with us, that on the way there they had several seats to spread out on. We are so excited for them as they desire to serve the Lord in full time ministry overseas. They would appreciate your prayers as they look for Gods direction and timing.

After spending time some precious time with Lizzie and Slate in Fort Wayne,we had to pass them over to their other grandparents, and make our way back home. We were home a whole 2 days before we had to pack up and leave for our trip to Nebraska. We were going to participate in their Missions Conference and see our good friends the Germans. Mike and I decided to travel there and back by train. That was so enjoyable and restful for Mike, as he does 80% of the driving. We loved it and highly recommend it for a traveling long distances.

A long time ago, (for those who are familiar with the NTM training) in what is called Jungle Camp, one of the Staff gave many of the men instructions on how to cut hair. I am not sure if I appreciated this or not. When we were living in the jungles I was the one who reluctantly cut my wife’s and children’s hair. Even occasionally some of our co-workers too. Not until tonight did I really appreciate this, as I was able to give my 2 year old grandson a hair cut, along with trimming two of my granddaughter’s hair. One never knows when the things we learn in life will bring us joy or a chore. But God is good, and gives us precious moments of Joy to go along with the chores. Moments that keep us going when we are on the opposite side of the world from our grandchildren and life seems to be a “chore”.

Having all or even some of our kids around is always a blessing. This past weekend our girls and their families were here in our home town for the weekend to give their youngest sister a Bridal shower . On Saturday night before heading to bed, I (Beth) raised the question ” what was the one thing that can cause them to worry right now?”. It turned out to be such a sweet time as we encouraged each other with the fears each were facing. We then joined hands and prayed for each other; giving our worries back to the Lord. I know the Lord heard heard each one of those prayers and we are excited to see how the Lord will work in each situation.

It was a great weekend, two of our daughters and their husbands and two of our grandchildren were in town. The same weekend I was schedule to preach at our home church. Another sort of surprise was that the Service became a sort of Mission service with the commissioning of some folks heading to Alaska. It is so encouraging to see folks who want to serve the Lord. They say the sermon went extremely well and many seemed excited and encourage by the message. A few also commented on how that I have changed over the years and drawn closer to the Lord. I attribute the sermon and the change to all those who prayed specifically for this weekend and for our ministry over the years. We serve an awesome God don’t we?

medical, dental, Preaching, Mission Conference, Sunday School teaching, travel, grandchildren and planning ....

It is hard to believe February is over, in what has been a very mild winter, an answer to our prayers. March is starting off with a bang. Dental work, medical checkups, Mike preaching at our Home Church on March 4th.. Then off to our daughters in Indiana for what started out to be a weekend visit, as our Son was going there also. Now we are staying longer to watch our grandchildren for a few days as our son and daughter will be heading off to Asia mid march to check out a possible job to do with computers. Pray for them as Katie is 6 months pregnant, and the Lord would give them direction as they long to serve him full term.

After only a few days with our grandchildren we return to Sarnia, for one day, teach Sunday School, and then turn around and get on a train for Nebraska to see some friends and to speak 3 or 5 times at a Mission Conference the weekend of the 23rd. We return to Sarnia the end of March after a two day stop in Wisconsin to see our son and his family.

This may not seem like much madness. But the last time we visited Nebraska Mike ended up branding 341 cattle. It was a lot of fun, as I had never done it before. I have asked them to keep whatever they have planned for this visit as a surprise.

It was a busy month in February. We purchased our tickets for our return to PNG, only to have one leg of our trip changed the week after we purchased our tickets. Fortunately we had cancellation insurance and the Airline refunded our ticket price within two weeks. Still with their basic fees and the loss on currency exchange from US $ to Canadian $ and then back again, we lost about $160 on the deal. Then in order to make our connections with Air Niugini and not have to Overnight in Port Moresby we had to purchase more expensive tickets with another airline. But all in all the connections are reasonable, if not better. We only have two 5 hour airport layovers, instead of one 13 and one 10 hour layover. Things are looking up even though our bank account was cleaned out in the process. God is good as we are flying with a better airline and have less layovers.
