About
What does it take to share the truth to people in a foreign land with a different language and culture? It takes a willing heart. New Tribes mission is committed to sending missionaries to people groups who have never heard the name of Jesus Christ in their own language.
Imagine with me for a moment…you have just entered a foreign land and settled into a city among a people group with which you cannot yet communicate. You spend two years learning the trade language of the country, then you move into a more remote location where the people speak a tribal language that has no written form. You along with other co-workers spend another 4 years learning the culture and acquiring the tribal language. You begin to understand the culture and worldview of that tribe and gain insight on how to present the truth of God’s Word to them in a way that they will comprehend. You begin teaching the people chronologically through the Bible, you spend time discipling, teaching literacy, developing a script in order to write God’s Word in their own language, and eventually you begin translating God’s Word into written form. The average amount of time this takes you from beginning to end…about 20-30 years.
Now let’s look at a different perspective on this journey….You have three children. As you are learning the national language your children might be at an international school in the area, but soon after that you will move 12 hours away from that international school. You don’t want to send your children away to a boarding school so you decide to home school your children in the village.
You are home schooling for the first time… ![[new]](../wp-content/blogs.dir/251/files/new/1366_24599.jpg)
You do not know what curriculums to choose…
You are removed from libraries…
You have no educational stores to buy materials…
You are not a trained teacher…
AND…you are still learning the tribal language and culture as well as being a full time parent in a foreign country without conveniences.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have some help?
In 2003 I began working at Grace International School (www.gisthailand.org) in Chiangmai, Thailand.

Through their Extension Services Department, missionaries receive support in home schooling their children anywhere within Thailand. Many missionary families all around the world are still without support! If you are interested in working at a missionary school, being a support educator for homeschool families, or have another skill such as engineering, accounting, medical support, office management, etc. you can be a blessing to missionary families, and be a part in helping to reach the lost.
So the question is…are you willing?
