We’ve moved….
Not really, just our blog has moved.
This is our first post on our new NTM blog. We will be using this site to keep you up to date on all things PNG. Well at least those things that we are involved in as we serve God here in Papua New Guinea. God continues to grow His church in PNG and we are excited and privileged to be a part of it.
Please bookmark this website and come back often to see all that God is doing in our lives and in the lives of the people here in PNG. We will be spending the next few days and weeks updating this site and adding pictures. So please be patient with us as we are “under construction”.
Recently we were able to go into a remote tribal location and be a part of a bible teachers seminar. A time when believers from different parts of PNG came together to encourage and challenge one another. It was an awesome time of fellowship and teaching and even more exciting was seeing most of the teaching done by PNG citizen believers not the missionaries. How awesome to see God growing these men and maturing them to the point where they can teach us about our own walk with God. While we were at the seminar we had an opportunity to visit with the 3 bible teachers from Manam. Manam is an island off the coast near where we live and we have a strong desire to go in and continue the work NTM started a few years ago. Since 2006 no missionaries have lived amongst these people and the young church is struggling. During our visit with the Manam guys we expressed our desire to partner with them and help prepare lessons and provide discipleship.
They responded with excitement and said unanimously that they are ready for a new team. This is a an answer to prayer as we have been waiting and a little anxious about our future ministry among the Manam people. As a matter of fact just before the seminar Christine and I had a long conversation about how things have not been moving ahead and we both were feeling a little discouraged about the lack of progress. It has been nearly 6 months since we expressed our desire to reopen the Manam church plant and we have seen little progress in moving ahead with the work. This last week while reading Psalms 94, God reminded us again of His faithfulness even in the midst of our doubt. Verse 19 says that when doubts or anxious thoughts fill our minds God is there to comfort and give hope. We saw that as we found ourselves consumed with what wasn’t happening with Manam and then God showing us that He is still in control and things are moving ahead even if it is not at a pace we would like. We again are filled with hope and excitement as we think about the opportunity to move in with this people group and help a fledgling church to grow and mature in the Lord.
