Listening to the teaching

Listening to the teaching

We just finished the first week of evangelistic Bible teaching.  One week down and six to go.  It was a very busy week, but so wonderful at the same time.  The eight Moi Bible teachers all did a fantastic job.

We are recording all the sessions and putting them on hand-wind MP3 players so people can listen to both the morning and afternoon teachings later on in the evening.  Even better than this almost all the believers are taking time with all the new people and reteaching what they heard in more of a one-on-one context.

We are also handing out a synopsis of the days lessons along with scripture portions for those who can read besides the Bible teachers.  Some are teaching small groups from these in the evenings.

Please keep praying for this outreach as we know the Satan wants to foil God’s plans.   Report from Rich and Karen Brown

MOI Update – Loss of a Daughter

Posted by Macon and Katy Hare on Monday, July 26th, 2010

Aindo with her mother, Yidodeo.

“God, only you can truly heal. You are all powerful and existed before the foundation of the world. You have appointed our time of death and nothing can change that. Only you can save her if you want,” she prayed.

All through the night we could hear Yidodeo mourning for her dying 1 1/2 year old daughter. Early yesterday morning Tepaiye came and brought news Aindo had died.

Losing children is all too common here among the Moi, but it’s especially hard when they already have a name and can walk and play. Despite the sadness we have been greatly blessed to see the Moi Body of Christ reach out. They are joining them in their sorrow, and reminding them of the truths in God’s Word; that He controls our destiny and not the evil spirits; in His infinite wisdom He has not only given things that are easy, but suffering as well. They are speaking the raw truth, something which the Moi seem to appreciate.

Please pray for Puapobido and Yidodeo as they bury their youngest child Aindo. (report from Rich Brown)

Literacy Graduates

“He did it! I’m privileged to be a vessel God used, but He gets the glory!” Lisa Kappeler praised. Yes, God is at work among the Uriai.

The village was abuzz with excitement and anticipation. Seven months of diligent teaching, amidst interruptions, arguments and jesting, cumulated in 20 grinning students who stood proudly to receive their literacy certificates. They are the first in their line of descendents to read their own language!

Impulsively hugged by the shyest student, praised in public by the village leader, Lisa (more…)

THE LAST LETTER

last letter

There is an age long forgotten story, when obedient Christians packed up their worldly belongings into a pine casket and sailed the oceans to a distant land. Before its ultimate use, the constantly visible casket served as a daily seal of the missionaries’ commitment to take up Jesus’ cross among the poor and the lost.

Before their ships would sail, these Christian servants would scribble with tears and ink, their own last letters. These letters were penned in Bibles and on weathered parchment in a desperate attempt to explain their divine compulsion to give up everything and everyone to serve the lost and the hurting. At her final farewell, surrounded by parents and siblings, a twenty-year-old single lady would hand her father her last letter, she would tearfully embrace, board the ship and sail off never to return.

THE ONLY GOOD GECKO…..you get the drift.

Beware the Gecko

You see, Gecko’s live in the rafters of jungle dwellings. Not so bad when you think of the bugs they devour. But bug eating Geckos have to deposit their waste somewhere. (Katy says not to use the words Gecko poop).

Can you imagine it, Gecko waste, raining down from the rafters at indiscriminate moments. This is something missionaries will not put up with; Not even yours truly, the Old Missionary Statesman.
