Naomi’s therapy coming to an end =)
Praise the Lord that Naomi continues to improve! The program that she has been getting therapy through is for 0-3 year old children and so that will come to an end in April. She was evaluated by the school in town and she does not qualify for their program which is a good sign that she has caught up to where she needs to be. She still needs to wear her braces on her feet for a while since she still collapses her arches inwards and will probably always need shoes with good arch support after being done with braces. She runs, climbs ladders, stairs, stands on one leg, etc. But she still has not learned to jump.
Anthony continues to improve too and has met his IEP (individual education plan) goals in pre-school and should be ready for kindergarten this fall.
Braces for Naomi’s feet

Naomi continues to improve =). The physical therapist and orthotist saw that she would need some braces for a while to hold her feet in the correct position since she collapses the inside of her arch inwards. She wears them inside her shoes and they don’t show much when wearing shoes. It is so encouraging to see her walking everywhere. Praise the Lord for continued progress.
“We go to new house?”

“We go to new house?” is something Anthony asks a lot when we are out somewhere lately…he loves the “new” place. The house we were living in is getting torn down and so we moved to the upstairs of this house and it is such a blessing to have some more space. The kids actually have room to play in their rooms now.
Good trip–unplanned vehicle purchase

We were on a trip to do partnership development and it was great to see everybody that we were able to see. Before our trip was over our suburban broke down and it was not worth the repair so we ended up getting a different one before we came home. It was a very pretty place to break down, we are so thankful that we have AAA, and we were thankful for the friends that we were staying with who were a huge help with driving us around to look at vehicles. The unplanned suburban purchase made the trip more expensive than what we expected but we are trusting the new to us suburban to serve us well.
Something exciting also happened on this trip–Naomi continued to make major progress with walking! Mid June she took over 100 steps and the following weeks continued to walk more and more. Now she mostly walks and does not scoot much any more. Praise the Lord for her progress. Check out our photo gallery for pics =).
Special treat from God

It was a cold day and Kirk found a butterfly on the path when we were on a walk. The butterfly was too cold to move much and Anthony got to carry it most of the way home. Naomi even got a turn to hold it once inside the house. Such a special treat from God to enjoy His creation like that on a cold day. We brought it inside and picked some flowers for it to sit on and feed from during the night. The next day after it warmed up we let it go. It had been trying to get out the living room window before we released it.
More progress on our kids =)

Naomi continues to see the chiropractor but not as often now. She is also going to physical therapy but sometimes gets very stubborn and does not always want to cooperate. Pray she will cooperate and be independent soon (able to walk and do other things kids her age can do). Sometimes Anthony gets to go along to physical therapy but sometimes I take Naomi while he is in school. Anthony recently started pre-school in town and seems to be doing well…he still is not conversational enough to give me feedback. The speech therapist that worked with Anthony earlier said that it would be good to check into the school to see how they could help. After testing him the school felt that the best way to help him would be to put him in the pre-school program rather than have him just come in for a few sessions one on one a week. They are working with him to give the help he needs to be where he should be for his age. Both of them continue to come a long way from where they were at a short time ago. Please continue to pray that they will continue to progress. Thanks so much for those of you who have mentioned to us that you have read our posts re: our kids and are excited to see how they are doing…that is such an encouragement.
Our kids are making progress
Our kids are making progress but still have a long way to go. Praise the Lord for the progress that they have made! We have been taking Naomi to the chiropractor (once we found out that she did not have a tethered spinal cord) and that has been making a big difference. The chiropractor said that her sacrum (tail bone area) was too posterior (which means it sticks out too far) and it was very tight through that area–this can cause restriction of nerves and muscles going down to the legs; and she had some hip rotation issues. Because of the hip rotation stuff she told us not to put her in walkers or jolly jumpers as that would make it worse but to walk her with our hands. She also said that some of it could be stubbornness. Just after she turned 20 months she finally started going from a lying down position to a sitting position on her own. She has been bearing weight, stands up against things when we put her there or she pulls up on our fingers. She is also getting better at walking with assistance. The other day she stood without touching anything for a count of 7 and moved one foot slightly forward (not sure whether to count that as her first step yet or not).
Anthony has also progressed by going to speech therapy which has come to an end but she suggested taking him to the school in town. She said that the sounds he is capable of making is actually quite good but he just needs to use language more. The school did some testing to see what programs he qualifies for so we are waiting to see what comes of that. He speaks so much more than he used to but still does not speak much compared to others his age. Thanks for praying and pray that the progress continues.
