DSC00915 (Medium)

Top ten things we learned on our trip.DSC00913 (Medium)

  1. The contents in the vehicle cost more than the  purchase price of the vehicle
  2. I haven’t driven with both hands on the wheel for that long since my driver’s test
  3. Who would have thought our 88 Suzuki would get better gas mileage then our 98 Nissan used to
  4. When passed by a semi on a two lane road, one’s prayer life matures
  5. When your vehicle has no insulation and a soft top, your only form of communication is yelling
  6. When your volt gauge tells you your alternator is no longer charging your battery, you have to turn off your heater (in winter!) so your battery doesn’t drain
  7. A small tall vehicle in windy conditions is the closest thing I ever want to come to riding a bull
  8. When you own an unusual car, then you add a tow bar hanging off the front and a luggage rack hanging off the back, and you can’t drive very fast, you will get looked, laughed, and honked at
  9. Fact:  Tucking in behind a semi will get you better gas mileage
  10. God wants Shelbi and I alive more than our vehicle does! :)

Thanks for your prayers!

Love,  Justin and Shelbi

It will be a long trip.

The long and short of it equals a prayer request.

We hope this update finds all of you overly stuffed with Christmas food and filled with great memories of time spent with friends and family, over the celebration of our Savior’s Birth.  As Shelbi and I are now packing for our move up north, we wanted to pass along a prayer request of ours.

Here is the deal, the Lord has blessed us with two vehicles a 88 Suzuki Samurai (which is great for around campus and grocery trips) and a 98 Nissan Pathfinder (our road trip/long distant vehicle).  Three days before we left for our Florida trip, we said goodbye to our Pathfinder.  It is actually a pretty cool “God” story on how we were able to be a blessing to another family and why we no longer have it. For sake of trying to keep this email short, I will spare the details, but we would love to share with you the whole story if you are interested.  Just ask.  Anyway, that leaves Shelbi and I with a 88 Samurai, that won’t go over 40mph going up any hill, and on a good long straight away might hit 60mph…when it’s empty.  In just a few days we are going to pack as much as we can in it (which isn’t much) and attempt and, trust me, I mean attempt (I don’t really know if it will make it) to make the trip to WI.   So our prayer request is for our trip, that the vehicle makes it, safely, and that we are able to get in it what we need for two months of living.  We also would be so grateful for your prayer that once we are in WI, we are able to purchase a more reliable vehicle.

Thanks again for those of you who follow us on this journey and pray for us!  You all are in our prayers as well.  Enjoy the New Year’s!

IMG_5292-2 (Large)A Look Back…

-  Jan 12, 2009 – We began classes with 35 other students pursuing training for cross-culture ministry like us.  Many have become close friends, and all will be scattered across the globe from Papua New Guinea to Mexico to us here in Missouri within the next 2-5 years putting into practice the training we’ve received with the burden God’s laid on all of our hearts for the masses who have no hope.

… and A Look Ahead

-  Dec. 18 – Graduate – Yay!!! (Justin’s thinking he’s been through too many of these already :) )

-  Dec. 19-Dec. 27 – Going to Florida to visit Shelbi’s grandparents

-  January – August – We will be spending these 8 months traveling all over the US sharing with individuals and churches about our ministry inviting them to join our partnership team.  (If you are on our mailing list, look for a more detail schedule of these plans  in our upcoming newsletter coming to your mailbox.  If you would like to make sure you are on our mailing list, click on the “contact” tab above, and send us your mailing address.)
