The Firecracker 5k: Clydesdale Style

Posted by Josh and Mandi Brower on Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Well, for the first time in over 5 years, I ran a 5 kilometer road race on July 4th. It was HOT, but I survived.

In fact, I got third place in my division.  What was my division you ask?

Well, for some reason they called it “Clydesdales.”

If you got a mental image of this:

Then you got it.  It was the division for men 34 and younger, and over 200 pounds.

Ya, that’s a real motivator, huh?

Oh well, at least now I have a new nickname…

Off the Deep End

To close off our time here in South Carolina, we helped out in our church’s two day middle-school day camp last weekend, and we had a great time. For years now, a couple from church have held Vacation Bible Schools and similar events on their property where they have lots of beautiful shaded land…along with a dock by the river where the kids can swim.

Josh and I led a small group and enjoyed getting to know some students we hadn’t spent time with before then. The days’ events consisted of learning about teaching the Bible through stories, planning a short skit of a portion of Joseph’s life (to practice the skill of Bible Storying), tye dying shirts, swimming and was topped off with a Christian Rock Concert…which was awesome!

It was the perfect way to end our time here on the island and with Grace Community Church.

The Corner Perk

Posted by Mandi Brower on Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

Well, if you’ve kept up with our blog at all, you’d know that we LOVE coffee…especially me, Mandi. Recently some friends of ours, Josh and Kali Cooke have opened their own coffee shop, The Corner Perk, in Bluffton.

We absolutely love the atmosphere and of course…the coffee. Since they are just starting out, they are there from early in the morning to late at night. So on Tuesday nights, Josh and I “babysit” the shop for them and let them go home for a little R&R. This has become a highlight of our week. Not only do we get to drink the yummy drinks for free…we also host a game night there on the side, which will make it in the local paper this week!

So, aside from the time we’ve spent partner building, were are also getting to help out some friends…and learn how to make lattes from a master…fun!
