For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.

Jonathan and Rachel in Carlsbad Caverns

Before we left Panama, we had the opportunity and privilege to help a couple of Buglere indian girls come out to town so they could continue on in their studies. Where they are from there is a school up to 6th grade in the US school system. For young ladies to study beyond that is virtually unheard of as the families usually want to marry them off as soon as they can. Teodora faced this at the age of thirteen but did not want to get married so we helped her to come to town and continue her studies. A year later Bernabela followed her at the age of fifteen.
We continue to help pay for their schooling and upkeep at the dorm run by YWAM in Panama City, Panama.

Since arriving in Mexico, Jonathan has been involved in the tribal works as a CLA consultant. (CLA stands for Culture and Language Acquisition.) This involves traveling out to the areas where missionaries live among tribal people in order to evaluate them and help them reach the level of cultural and language understanding where they can communicate clearly the message of the Bible.

He also helps to coordinate the other consultant help on the field. Missionaries can benefit from consultant help in the areas of translation, lesson writing, literacy, church planting strategy and evaluation. While Jonathan doesn’t “do”  all this, he is responsible to make sure the  missionaries in the tribe get the help they need in these areas.

Jonathan also helps to train new missionaries from Mexico and Latin America at “Rancho Siloé”; the Mexican missionary training centre.

Rachel keeps the family running smoothly (most of the time…) and also helps occasionally in the MK school. She goes most weeks to an orphanage in the city of Chihuahua to help the children there with homework and show them some care and attention that otherwise they wouldn’t receive.

We have five children, three of whom have left home. Thomas is married to Jodi and is studying chemistry at College of tOur five children "when we were young"he Ozarks. He graduates in May 2012. Karis is studying nursing, also at College of the Ozarks and she is marrying Grant Brown in December of this year. Hannah is working in England and hopes to enter university there starting in September of 2012. James graduates from high school in May 2012 and our youngest, Jack will be with us for another four years of school.
