Pictures from the road trip
We had a long but good ride from Wisconsin to Quebec. I thought you might enjoy some of our pictures from the road trip etc. Ou plan is to share with you a few of the differences we are noticing as we get settled in. Stay tuned for further posts about this new chapter.
Pleas Pray for us as we adjust to these differences. It can be quite challenging for our whole family. There is just a generally extended stress level when dealing with all of the changes.
Enjoy the pictures. More to follow along with some commentary on the differences. Au revoir for now!

air ride notice in multiple languages ???
We were driving down the road and I noticed this air ride notice on the side of a truck that was passing us…hmmm, we are not in kansas anymore.

Being on the road can be so tiring, but don't let the coloring book drop whatever you do

We brought along some extremely serious help for the drive up

Food and getting the wiggles out

Playland ooooh yea

Hmmm, I wonder what country that picture was taken in?

Our New Home
Made it to London Ontario
So had a long day today departing at 4:20 AM and arriving in London at around 10 PM Central time. We are here though and looking at another long day of driving tomorrow. We made it through Chicago without having to actually stop.
We completed our immigration and customs paperwork without really a hitch, so that was awesome.
Please pray for us as we have another 10 hours of driving, and who knows how long including stops tomorrow.
Farewell to Wisconsin

Pizza Get Together
Today we experienced yet another LAST before moving to Canada. We had our last Sunday at Westbrook. It was great to see everyone and worship together before heading off on Tuesday morning early. After Church we had a pizza get together to hang out and say goodbye, or see ya later. It was awesome to have a time to see our friends and family before heading out.
We have moved out of our place and are staying with friends for our last few days. We were so blessed this week by having a LOT of help to wrap up details.
Apartment cleaned – Check
Boxes Packed – Check
Change of Address paperwork – Check
Truck loaded – Check
Lots of pizza consumed – Check
Please continue to pray for us, we are so thankful to have faithful partners praying for our family. Please pray for:
- Smooth Trip to Canada
- Kids on the long car / truck ride
- Praise the Lord for the Hennings traveling with us to help with the driving
- Praise the Lord that James is feeling better
- Pray for James and Jada’s breathing to get back to 100%
Tears are “floating”
This last weekend we had the priviledge of celebrating the wedding of Misty ( Jenny’s Sister), and Andy. Our daughter spent the first several minutes of the wedding ceremony crying because she was going to miss her “mia moo”, Aunt Misty. It is going to be hard to be away from the family, but it was so awesome to be a part of their special day, to have family in town as well. Sunday we said our goodbyes, which was hard. We have noticed that the kids have been crying a good bit, which is healthy but also a sign of the sadness that we all feel as we prepare to leave our friends and family behind.
We recently have had a lot of rain, which has resulted in flooding in some areas. Earlier today I was going to take the kids to a park while we waited for the rest of the family that were at some appointments. We had to make a u-turn in the parking lot because the park was flooded. Later on in the day I had to run some errands and took Jada with me. We were driving in the car and we passed a Park. Jada said that park isn’t floating, translation = flooded. I told her that the park we had tried to visit was the one that had flooded, not all parks. She said that it was the one we had been to one time, literally it was one time. Anyhow…as I was driving I looked back at her to see tears rolling down her cheeks. When I asked why she was crying she said it was because the park was “floated”. These days we find ourselves crying without always knowing the real reason we are crying. It did earn her a hot “choco” chocolate and a sticker at the coffee shop afterwards.
Certificate of Acceptance – Immigration Paperwork – Check
Thank you so much for praying with us for the paperwork needed to move forward with French Study this fall in Canada.
We have received the paperwork we were waiting for in the mail. Praise the Lord. Thank you so much for praying with us about our paperwork for our move to Canada. We have our truck reserved for moving our stuff and our house is starting to come apart piece by piece and be put into boxes or taken off to Lake Country Caring, listed on Craigslist, or given away to friends.
Please pray for us:
- Packing up the rest of our things
- Transitioning as a family
Transitioning to Quebec
Please pray for our family as we transition first to the “idea” that we are going to be moving again in 5 weeks.
Please pray for us to depend on HIM as we go through this transition as a family. Our hearts desire is that we would love on and support each other through this process, but the reality is quite different, hence the need for prayer. Thank you so much for your willingness to stand with us in prayer as we prepare, pack, clean, say goodbyes, move, move-in, say goodbyes, enter a new language and culture, make new friends, the kids start school etc.
5 weeks and counting…

The kids next to some of what we have packed so far
We are excited to report that we have made our decision about August vs. January for beginning our French Study in Quebec. We have just 5 short weeks before we head off to Quebec to get settled in and begin our French Language Study.
God has so blessed our family with many wonderful people who provide input, wisdom and insight on these decisions. We have taken this time to talk with Westbrook Church, Mercy Hill Lake Country, NTM’s MK Care and Education department, NTM’s Member Care and …… you get the idea. Anyhow, after seeking counsel, praying about it, thinking about it and waiting on the Lord for paperwork details we have decided to move forward with French Study in Quebec this August. On Thursday, before hearing final word on our immigration paperwork, we decided that we would move forward pending our immigration paperwork. We made our decision in the morning, and that evening we heard that Jonathan’s paperwork was on it’s way and the following morning that Emmanuel’s paperwork is in the mail. It was encouraging to us to have these confirmations. Thank you so much for standing with us during this journey through your prayers and support.
Caterpillar to moth project
Below are some pictures of the process of watching some “cute” caterpillars becoming moths. This is the first time that we have been through the whole process with the kids. We went camping in late may and Jenny took the opportunity to collect some caterpillars off our our tent and bring them home for this fun project with the kids. Enjoy the pictures below. You can use the arrows below the pictures to take a look, or you can click on the link at the top of the page to go to our photos page. We even borrowed a caterpillar field guide from the library and found out that we had Eastern Tent Caterpillars. It was hard to identify the caterpillars but a slam-dunk to identify the moths. Seven Eastern Tent Caterpillars “hatched” from their cocoons into little brown moths.
We thank the Lord for His creation and getting to share in the wonder of transformation!
Art “class” on a rainy day
Jenny has been working very hard at home schooling our children. The next few posts will relate to what has been going on in that one facet of our lives. Below are some picture of the kids enjoying doing some coloring on a rainy day. It was such a joy to see them getting creative and enjoying themselves with some spontaneous art projects! They did some great “sculpting,” coloring, and drawing!
You can click on the links below the pictures to browse through the photos we have of this even. You can also go to our photos page and look at some of the other pictures we have uploaded recently.
Lame parents finally teach son to tie his shoes
Below are some pictures of Emmanuel tying his shoes all by himself. Enjoy the pictures below of him tying his shoes for one of the first times. We are so blessed to have Emmanuel as part of the family that God has put together for us. Please pray for him and us as we continue to press on with home schooling.
Paperwork, Paperwork and more Paperwork

Accepted!
We are happy to share what we have been up to lately! We’ve shared a couple birthdays together; received acceptance to the French study program in Quebec (the next stop on our journey to Senegal, West Africa; the kid’s have improved by leaps & bounds in their home school studies; and…
We have been working feverishly on our paperwork to move to Canada. We mailed in our paperwork on Monday, May 10–express mail and the longest addresses I think I have ever written in my life.
I prepared envelopes to mail our applications separately, when I arrived at the post office I found out it would be best to send all the papers going to the same address in an express mail envelope….so I got to write the address yet again for the Express Mail label. Then, I learned that in order to mail the paperwork to Canada a customs form needed to be filled out with the address as well. Life has its challenges, but hey, it is in the mail!
We have followed our paper work and see that it has arrived safely & soundly. Pray with us as they process our application that we would all receive our Certificate of Acceptance to Quebec (Both of us & the two kids who will be in public school need these CAQs)!
Great news! Two of our applications have been processed: mine needs a letter that was lacking some specific detail, and Jenny’s CAQ was granted!!

Spread out all your stuff and try to work through the details

Jenny Off to Breakaway

Jenny and James resting on the couch
I enjoy posting at least one picture per blog post, so I put this picture of Jenny and James. I suppose that I should have taken a picture of her looking a little more frazzled or something to go along with the theme of her needing a chance to Break Away.
Jenny is away for the weekend spending some time refreshing and getting out with other ladies. You can checkout the Breakaway event website for more details if you would like. She was able to ride down with a friend tonight and she will be back with us on Sunday at some point. We are so blessed that she was able to go to this, much needed, weekend away. I am at home holding down the fort, but we had a great evening on Friday. We drank soda with dinner, built a fort in the boys room, read books, played Uno and watched a Tom and Jerry episode in the “Fort”. The kids are all sleeping in and around the fort, which probably means they are not sleeping too well.
I was telling the kids the plans for the evening and Elena piped up and asked if we could have the neighbor kids over to watch a movie in our fort. The last time Jenny went away, we had a fort, we invited over John Michael and Lucy at the Missionary Training Center.
Tomorrow afternoon we are headed over to Paul’s to spend time with him and his 4 kids while Dana goes on a shopping extravaganza. Should be fun, although I suppose we will have two times the number of kids.
6 and counting…

Birthday Girl
It is hard to believe that our little Elena is 6 already. We were blessed to be joined by a number of her biological family members. It was so good to have them with us and to celebrate Elena. We have posted some pictures of her birthday on our Photos page. Feel free to check them out and enjoy our celebration a little bit by checking out our pics. It is incredible how fast she is growing and how much she is learning in school. Tonight she actually read us a story, WOW! These days in school Jenny and the kids are charting how many of their reading flash cards they can read in a minute so they can see their progress.
