Just a quick update on our last few weeks!
Joel flew our friends, Chris and Lynne Strange into – and out of – the village where they have been working for the last 8 years. They were saying goodbye. Goodbyes are not easy… and missionaries sure seem to have their share of them. Pray for the Stranges as they are sad to leave behind wonderful friends in their village and here in town, and for us as we say goodbye to them! Chris and Lynne have become stand-in grandma and grandpa to our girls and we will all miss them.
On a happier note, a hello…. Joel flew our new friends, the Castelijns, back into their village to resume their work there after a two year furlough. They brought two of their four kids back with them- one of whom has been a good buddy to Ryley already. Pray for the Castelijns while they adjust to life here again, and leaving their older two girls back home in Australia.
Last week, we had a conference for all the NTM missionaries on our island. It was such a great time of hearing what God is doing all over Mindanao. Joel and I had the privilege of helping lead the group in times of worship.
During the conference, our coworkers translated for their friend from the village where they used to work. It’s not safe for missionaries to be in that village right now- so they are discipling this man from town, and he then goes and teaches in the village. It was INCREDIBLE to hear – out of this man’s own mouth – about how God has changed his life over the last several years, and how God is changing the lives of the people in the village through the chronological teaching of the Bible, translated by this NTM missionary couple. It’s so amazing to see God continuing His work even when the missionaries can’t be there.
Since lots of ladies were in town for conference, my friend Brooke and I hosted a ladies’ time for coffee and treats and fellowship. Super fun!
Praise & Prayer
- Goodbyes and hellos seem to be a constant part of life here. We are sad to say goodbye to our friends, but we are excited to say hello to several new coworkers who will be arriving here in the next few months! God is working on the island of Mindanao!
- It was so encouraging to see what God is doing on the island of Mindanao during our conference. Keep praying for all the tribal works that are happening here.
FINANCIAL UPDATE
This is not our favorite topic, but we have been living at about 70% of our recommended support for the last few months. A lot of this is because the US dollar has continued to decline and the exchange rate with the Philippine peso has worsened. Lately we’ve found it difficult to live on this amount of support. Even though it’s been tight, God has been faithful to provide just what we have needed through one-time gifts from many of you. We’ve just realized that it’s probably time to let you know of our need. If any of you would like to be a part of our monthly support team, you can send us an email at joel_davis@ntm.org, or go to our website by clicking HERE.
Make sure you “friend” us on facebook- lots more updates on there!
