Iba’teng Youth Missions Project

Posted by Jody and Barbara Crain in Ministry on Nov 6th, 2010 | Discuss This Post

Nguun & TililThree years ago Nguun & Tilil Villano were sent out in faith to a village over a 100 kilometers away to be church planting missionaries to the Tagbanwas living in the area of Bubusaon. They are seeing the Lord bless and raise up a church there, but they have two urgent needs.

First, Tilil has been battling Tuberculosis. She completed a treatment a couple of years ago, but recently learned that the TB has return. Would you pray with us for the Lord to provide for another full TB treatment. And, pray for complete healing. Would you like to help Tilil with her medical expenses? Click here, and please note: For T.B. medicine for Tilil.

Second, their monthly support level is so low that they are having difficultly living in the mission outreach. There are four churches partnering to support them, but are not able to provide adequate funding. So, the Young Peoples’ Group in their home church, Iba’teng, have come up with a project to supplement the Villano’s monthly support.

Project: Plant a 1¼ acre garden of ginger to supplement the monthly support of missionaries Nguun & Tilil Villano.  This project has the potential to more than double the Villano’s monthly support, which would be adequate for their needs.

Here is what is needed to get this project going:

Food (rice, veggies, coffee, etc.) for 28 young people & 28 work days

  • Cutting weeds and trees – 1 day
  • Burning and clearing – 5 days
  • Plowing – 8 days
  • Harrowing & Planting – 4 days
  • Weeding – 7 days
  • Harvest – 3 days…………………………………………………………………………………..$8 day x 28 days $230

Fertilizer…………………………………………………………………………………………………..2 Sack of Fertilizer $12

Pesticide………………………………………………………………………………………………..1 Bottle of Pesticide $23

Ginger Cuttings (similar to seedlings)

  • 164 kilos x 50/$1.15 per Kilo
  • Delivery costs…………………………………………………………………………………………..Ginger Cuttings $205

Water Buffalo for hauling harvest

  • 8 Days @ $5 a Day………………………………………………………………………………………..Water Buffalo $40

Field House/Hut

  • Bamboo
  • Nails
  • Posts
  • Rattan………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..Field House $75

Total Cost for the Project $585

How Do You Look for an Unreached People Group?

Posted by Jody and Barbara Crain in Ministry on Mar 29th, 2010 | Discuss This Post

Looking around the world to the areas where the Gospel has not yet gone, reminds me of a nine island survey in the Philippines that a coworker and I did a while back. This trip really wasn’t work, it was more like a tropical isles vacation…we’ll, maybe not quite.

We began with an hour jet flight to from Manila to the capital city of Palawan. Climbed on motorcycles for 4 days,

4 Days in the 'Saddle'

Then we took another flight on a 19 ‘seater’ inter-island plane to Cuyo Island,

Love that hummm...

Next we transferred our packs onto an 8 hp diesel engine ‘pumpboat’ (which was our ride for the next 7 days).

And then, made a two hour trip to the first island.

Incredible beautiful beaches and tropical vegetation

Everyday we piled into this boat and traveled to one small island after another. What were we looking for? People who are part of the Agutaynen ethnic group.

Also, the island leaders — Barrio Captains, and their counsel members to find out:

How many people lived there? (From 300 to 4,000 people, totaling over 10,000 in all.) What language do they speak? (85% speak Agutaynen.)

Is the Word of God being taught? (Only 1 island had someone teaching the Word.) What are their needs? (Clean drinking water, health centers, 1 room school building, etc.) Can we build an airstrip on this island? (Some, yes. Some, no.)

Would they like for NTM to send missionaries to live with them? (Yes, every island!) So what are we waiting for? Workers!!!

There was no plane from Cuyo back to Puerto, so sailed for 17 hours on a small ship with 230 other passengers.

Small Ship around Palawan

Praise the Lord for: giving us grace with the people we met, motorcycles, boats, planes for each leg of the trip, safety in all our travels, giving us a glimpse of what He is wanting to do among this people group. Pray for the Lord to:

* Raise up a church planting team of 3 families (2 Bible teachers and 1 community developer) to reach the Agutaynen people on these 9 islands.
* Provide the resources for helping the villages/islands with their physical needs to facilitate building relationships with the people.
* Give wisdom in how to address the cultural issues in conflict with the Gospel among the Agutaynen.

Thank you for your faithful partnership in seeing the unreached ethnic groups of the Philippines and Asia hear the Gospel of grace.

Golfing for Unreached People Groups?

Posted by Jody and Barbara Crain in Ministry on Jun 21st, 2007 | Discuss This Post

NTM Golf Classic centered around "Expanding the Reach of the Gospel"

The 2007 Missionary Enrichment Conference is now history!  What a wonderful week together with many missionaries from around the world.

One of the highlights was our 11th annual NTM Golf Classic that took place on Monday afternoon at Dogwood Hills Golf Club in Osage Beach, MO.  What a wonderful time together with around 40 golfers hitting the links for the day.  Many from our community paired up with missionaries for the day.  The weather held out for us all with the winning team coming in a -4 for the golf classic.  Great fun, fellowship and a specific focus on unreached people groups took place throughout the day.  Many of the men were sun tanned and light rain soaked but blessed.

Thanks to all who attended!

Also, Gracia Burnham – one of our NTM co-workers spoke during the week.

Come and read the story our local newspaper printed this week about our conference and Gracia Burnham.
