Anatomy of a move: Home

We last left you with our arrival in Papua. But that’s not where our move ended. Although we are at the ‘end of the earth’ as far as flight plans go. Our the first couple of weeks here we stayed with Joy’s older sister and family, who we have to say a HUGE thank you to! It was so great to FINALLY get to spend some time with that particular part of the family. They lived in Arizona and we lived in Michigan, so we never really got to spend a lot of time together. Making living close one of many wonderful things God has done for us on this journey to serve Him.

Anatomy of a Move part 4:

to the end of the earth…

Many flights lead to Papua, but not many fly on from here. Making Papua as close to the “end” of the earth as possible. It is a beautiful place, kind of an untouched paradise, a last eden. Literally miles of gorgeous tropical beaches to snow capped mountains in the highlands. It is the ‘end’ of the road for us for a bit as well. This is our new home, FINALLY! We are so excited to be here, although we have definitely felt the effects of moving into another new culture. Its funny how sometimes we joke about the differences in the states. How you go from California to Maine, or Michigan to Florida, each place has its own uniqueness’. The same can be said of Indonesia, only on a grander scale.  There are so many cultural backgrounds here, including (but not limited to) the Island of Papua, where there are around 250 DIFFERENT people/language groups! All on an Island about the size of the state of California.

Our flights from central Indonesia to Papua were uneventful. We were met by Joy’s sister and her family. The kids have all been missing each other since our trip here a few months ago. Needless to say the are all happy!

Our plans have also changed a little bit, instead of moving ‘lansung’ (direct) to our destination, we are now staying in the coastal area at least till the end of the school year. The school in interior does not offer kindergarten (Hint, Hint… We need teachers for many grades at the Schools here! Email us for more info!). This really doesn’t change to much for us, except that we are beginning our orientation to Papua by the coast rather than interior. We are excited for this change as we get to spend some extra ‘time’ with family! This is the closest we have ever lived to them and we are SO excited to finally get to spend time with cousins! :)

Thanks for all your prayers as we made this move. It has been a long journey, but we have seen the hand of God provide in so many ways.

Following the plans of the Lord,

Jim, Joy, Arika and Linc

Amazing Race Week 2

Hi!

Many have expressed concern as to our well being in the last few days. We wanted to start out by reassuring you all that we are fine. Though Mt. Merapi (the volcano that erupted, may erupt more) is only a hour or so from our home in Central Java. We are safe and sound in Papua. Enjoying our time with Joy’s oldest sister, and also just finished a fellowship time with most of our coworkers here on the Island.

It was a crazy week as from Saturday until Wednesday as we met with our coworkers. We would leave Joys sisters and head to a meeting place around 8 and come home sometime around 8. The days where long but we got to spend a lot of time with so many of our friends we haven’t seen in many years, the very church planters we will be serving!

Whats in a coke zero?

For many of you this is not an issue. When you want a Coke or a Diet Coke. You go to the fridge and get one out or buy one an the store. But what if you lived on a island where almost every single thing has to be shipped from another. Papua is an Island like that. There are no factories here. Which means when the ship carrying the cargo shows up there are things on the store shelves.

But what happens when the shelves are bare? You learn to live. But today we had the opportunity to begin to serve our friends. We went shopping in a neighboring city and found Coke Zero, All the local stores are out of stock. A few days before we learned of one of our church planters and His wife LOVE to have coke zero, But when its out.. Well You get the picture. We bought the case and brought it back to them, truly our Job as Supply Buyers for our friends. Now as they head back to the Tribe from our meetings they will carry with them Coke zero, going to their home happy and caffeinated. So much fun to make their day, Thank you for making it possible!

Making Church planters happy, one Coke Zero at a time, Jim, Joy, Arika and Linc ==============================================
