Jerry & Joyce McDaniels

opening God's Word through literacy

About

How McDaniels became involved in tribal church planting…

Jerry, 1979Jerry – “For me, reading missionary biographies as a young teen was what sparked my interest! I was fascinated by the sacrifices, adventures and even danger that God’s servants endured to bring the Gospel to unreached people. There were a few years that my life didn’t model a desire to really please God, and in a crisis situation our merciful God reached down and pulled me out of my foolishness. Then I headed off to Bible school and through missionary training. And that began a life of serving my Lord!”

God speaks to children! (Joyce, 1968)

Joyce – “In first grade, I was watching one of those old, reel-to-reel movies in school about the Quechan people of Peru. The social studies film had nothing specifically to do with God, but He sure spoke clearly to me! I realized that unless someone was willing to go out and live with those people in the mountains, learning their language and loving them; the Quechan children would never know about Jesus. At the age of seven, I had little understanding of what mission work would entail, but I distinctly remember going home from school and saying to the Lord, “I’m Your girl. If You want to send me anywhere, I will go.”

Jerry & Joyce moved to Panama in 1983 and served with the Kuna people for 20 years. Then they served 5 years on a team which coordinates tribal church planting for New Tribes Mission in Latin America. Currently, they are working as International Literacy Coordinators that tribal people around the world might be able to read and understand God’s Word in their own language.

Jerry & Joyce have 3 married children and 6 grandchildren.
