Using Technology To Reach The Lost

Wow Another Year has gone by and New Ministry for Nicky

Posted by Jeffrey and Nicole Porter in Uncategorized on May 21st, 2012 | Discuss This Post

It’s hard to believe that the NTBI School year is over and another group of seniors are graduated and headed off all over the world.  It’s always excited when working in a support ministry to see our students move on; it gives you a sense of renewal and excitement for our service here.

When we read stories in the NTM@work magazine about our former students who are serving the Lord in missions all over the world, we just sit back and smile and Praise the Lord that we can be one part of the “body of Christ” in seeing the World reached for Christ.

We are also excited to announce that Nicky will now be the child care director here at NTBI, she has already been fulfilling some of the responsibilities, but even more have been added (scheduling, writing curriculum, budgeting for the department, meeting with parents, etc).

I(Jeff) am excited to have an intern, Zach Parker, work for 10 hours a week this upcoming school year.  Zach is a young man, who has a real heart to serve in IT in missions!  I’m looking forward not only to the help with the work load (as the more technology advances, the more I’m getting pretty swamped), but more importantly to development a great working and mentoring relationship with Zach and help prepare him for whatever the Lord has for him in the future.

We are excited that Brittany just finished her first year of college and did a great job and really enjoyed it.  She now has some big decisions to make as to where to go this year.  We hope all works out for her to go to Trinity University.  It’s a great Christian University between Milwaukee and Chicago.  The university has the degree that she wants and she also has made their volleyball team all in a Godly environment.

So thanks again for all those who faithfully stand with us!  Here are some immediate prayer requests that we have

PRAY FOR NICKY: As she settles in and prepares for her new ministry/responsbilities as Child Care Director
PRAY FOR JEFF:  As I prepare for Zach to be an intern and that I would be  able to teach, mentor, and encourage Zach in his passion to serve the Lord in a IT Ministry!
PRAY FOR JEFF:  As I continue to teach high school kids drama, that I can be an encourage and Godly example for them.
PRAY FOR JEFF:  AS I am beginning a relationship  with a friend I met through running, and hope to for many opportunities to witness to him
PRAY FOR BRITTANY: As she works this summer and prepares for college again in the Fall.  Pray as seeks the Lord for direction for her future education.

For HIS glory! Jeff Nicky and Brittany Porter

In a childcare ministry what do you do when numbers are down?

Posted by Jeffrey and Nicole Porter in Uncategorized on Mar 14th, 2012 | Discuss This Post

This month we have a quick update on Nicky’s ministry in the childcare; which she is now in her 6th year doing.  (FYI – most people get admitted to some “institution” if they work with other peoples kids that long, haha)

This semester provides a unique situation here at NTBI.  Usually there is an abundance of babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, but numbers are down.  Nicky has been able to have a couple days off each week this semester and has been a blessing to get a “little refreshed”.   I say little because even though she is not with the kids she has slowly over the years taken on more administrative and organizational roles as well in Childcare.  Nicky does most of the buying of supplies and equipment for childcare, and is the go to person for when workers are sick, etc.

This semester in particular she is organizing some old storage rooms and getting them cleaned, painted, and more functional for storing toys, supplies, curriculum, etc.

She is also going through curriculum to find some age appropriate and biblical based lessons for our pre-school aged kids.

I know I’m amazed at what she does and humbled by her attitude in it all.  She is one that serves and doesn’t care who gets the credit, except the Lord!

I said this semester is not the normal, well below IS :-)

THANK YOU FOR PARTNERING WITH US AS WE TRUST GODS PROVISION FOR OUR DAY TO DAY NEEDS.  PLEASE LET US KNOW IF HAVE QUESTIONS ON HOW YOU CAN BE INVOLVED!

March 2012 Prayer Requests

Posted by Jeffrey and Nicole Porter in Prayer Request on Mar 14th, 2012 | Discuss This Post
  • Please pray for Brittany as she seeks what the Lord would have for her next year for college.  She is looking at a couple different options.  Currently she is UW Waukesha and it’s going very well (well as good as studying goes right :-)
  • Pray for healing for Nicky, she has been battling a cough for 4 weeks now.  It’s not as bad as it was which we are thankful for, but it is still there and “not normal” let’s put it that way.
  • Pray for our students; there is quite a bit of sickness going around, including coughs, colds, pneumonia, etc.  This is hard with the homework, and is especially hard when it’s a small child of one of our married student.s
  • Prayer that would keep focused on the Lord in our ministries as we support our staff and students

A new semester bring new students and challenges!

Posted by Jeffrey and Nicole Porter in Uncategorized on Feb 15th, 2012 | Discuss This Post

Well the new semester is into it’s 4th week now and we have graduated off the seniors and now have a great group of freshman here at NTBI Waukesha.  The winter break was a very busy time for me (Jeff) in the IT Department.

I completely re-did our student wireless for our students.  This has already been a blessing to both myself and the students as it gives them better wireless coverage in our 100+ year old building!

It’s amazing to think about how fast technology changes before our eyes!  Gone are the days of everyone have 60 lb monitors and power hungry desktops.  Now many of our students bring laptops, netbooks, tablets (iPad, android, etc), e-readers (nook, kindle, etc); and cell phones and iPods that have internet access.

This continues to challenge us as IT support missionaries to be “extra responsible” for content, access, etc.  It’s very exciting to think that a MK can Skype with their parents half way around the world from their dorm room!!

I just finished up our now annual USA IT Meetings in Sanford, FL.  It was a great time of planning and moving forward with the rest of the IT guys from our other training facilities.  A highlight for me was to have Nicky come along this time!  We were even able to take a couple days vacation with Nicky’s sister Melissa and husband Greg.  We had a great time of fellowship and relaxation.  It  had been a while since we had a few days to just “chill out’, so to speak :-)

Thanks for all of you who are involved in our ministry it truly is an honor to serve with you and on your behalf as we train the next generation of Missionaries!

PS – Next month look for a great “childcare” update

Body of Christ at NTBI

Posted by Jeffrey and Nicole Porter in Uncategorized on Jun 21st, 2011 | Discuss This Post

The verse above is such a great reminder to us as we serve in support roles here at New Tribes Bible institute in Waukesha, WI.   First you start off with 200 people living in and around a 100+ year old building and the challenges start to mount.  Can the faculty members who teach the word every day worry about repairing the laundry mat on campus?  Can the ladies serving in childcare, like NICKY, worry about if the noon meal is going to be ready to serve 250 people?  Can JEFF , serving as the IT Director, worry about the card catalog system and all the books in the campus library. NO, NO, AND NO !

That’s because this school is run by FAITH and by FAITHFUL missionaries who serve day after day with their gifts and talents. Working as the body of Christ, to teach and model our 80 graduates (see picture on the right) so they can in turn go out and Preach the Gospel to those who have never heard and encourage those TRIBAL believers to be the BODY OF CHRIST!

Brit Graduating 10 Years flown by!!

Posted by Jeffrey and Nicole Porter in Family on Jun 21st, 2011 | Discuss This Post

CAN YOU BELIEVE

its been 10 years since we felt the Lord leading us into full time missions!  We remember like it was yesterday.  Telling our families; selling our house; and being commissioned by our sending church.

When we arrived at NTBI Waukesha to live in our tiny apartment with no bathroom, no running water; we knew things were going to be “different”. Brittany was getting ready for 3rd grade at Hilltop Christian Academy right here on campus.  It didn’t take long for any of us to settle in.  Thank the Lord for that!

FAST FORWARD…

Living in Indonesia for 6 months; Missouri for 10 months; and finally settling back into our full time ministries right here at NTBI Waukesha where it all began.  We praise the Lord for this “chapter” in our life and thank Him for all the wonderful memories that we have had here.   We capped it all off two weeks ago with a great graduation ceremony and party with our friends and family!

Brittany will be attending the University of Wisconsin, Waukesha Campus in the fall.  She is involved in the college ministry group at our church;  where she also volunteers at the Mission Cafe  on Sundays.  Brit also works at Cousins Subs.

This summer Nicky and I are enjoying the slow down from our computer and child care ministries.  The school year is crazy from Sept to May so the summer months are a nice way to recoup and refresh.  For some reason though with computers and technology there is always something to do :-)

Thanks to ALL of you who have prayed for, encouraged, and given financially to our ministry over the years, we look forward to partnering with you all for
the next 10 years!
Love Jeff Nicky and BrittanyBrittanys Graduation Ceremony
