How has the New Year been treating you?

For me it has been an exercise in jumping in with both feet. Last weekend Angie and I had the opportunity to get away for a married couples retreat at Joy Bible Camp near Bancroft. You can read about that adventure here: http://blogs.ntm.org/jason-bechtel/2010/01/13/laugh-your-way-through-marriage-retreat/

This weekend I am driving to Florida with two co-workers for a week of meetings. We really do appreciate your prayers. Safety on the road is one need, a profitable week of meetings is another. While I am gone Angie and the girls are going to spend some of the week with her parents.

I continue to squeeze in time for the Lauje Tribal Bible. It is supper exciting to think that later this year the Lauje people of Indonesia will have the New Testament in their language for the first time. Praise the Lord with us that the funds for the printing of this New Testament have already come in. If you are interested in helping fund other Tribal Bibles (or maybe your church is) please let me know! Please be praying for me as I continue to format the Lauje New Testament. There is so much potential for a slip of a finger and a letter being added in or taken out!

Angie and the girls have all had minor colds in the last couple of weeks. Praise the Lord that this has all been minor. Please be praying that both girls start sleeping better so that Angie and I can sleep better too (I know, we are selfish!)

In cause you were wondering which prayer card was the most popular, option #1 ended up with a significant lead over my (Jason’s) personal favourite! Don’t worry, my feelings aren’t hurt (that much).

Oh, and Lorelei is officially sitting up on her own now. She still is prone to “tipping over”, but for the most part she has this mastered. Yay Lorelei! Please continue to pray for Angie and I as we raise these two gifts from God. We really want to live lives in step with God which our girls want to model their lives after.

Please check out this video on our website: http://blogs.ntm.org/jason-bechtel/2009/12/31/dagamee-does-your-heart-hurt-too/
Dagamee, a baby-Christian in the Moi tribe of Indonesia, explains: “The Creator God is our true Father and we look to Him to meet our needs — our hunger, our wounds, our hunting. For things big and small we cry out to the Creator.” Angie and I are also keenly aware of God’s blessings in our lives. He went to Calvary for our greatest need, and continues to care for us, even down to money for our hunting trips to the grocery store!

Angie and I feel so privileged to have a part reaching , and others like him around the world, with the Good News about Jesus Christ. All of you who are supporting us, either in prayer, financially, or with much needed encouragement, are also helping the Gospel go where it has never been before!

Millions unreached, none unreachable.

Jason for Angie, Delena and Lorelei too

On October 5th I posted a new tribal video from New Tribes Mission of Canada. That version had English dubbing. I have since found a version with English sub-titles and Awayo telling his own story.

Here is a bit more information to go with the film:

Awayo lives in the mountainous jungle regions of West Papua, Indonesia. His tribe is called “Moi”(’moy’); there are only 700-800 Moi in existence. The Moi have a language and culture completely their own. Their primitive lifestyle is one that you wouldn’t think still truly exists in the 21st Century. Awayo’s home is as “ends of the earth” as you can get.

This is Awayo’s story. Though he lives in an indigenous, remote tribe, Awayo’s life is anything but simple. Riddled with pain, murder & deception, life in the Moi tribe was spent in constant fear. There was no hope. Then something happened that shook the foundation of Awayo’s life.

AWAYO – Fear to Faith (English subtitles) from New Tribes Mission on Vimeo.

God doesn't change, but He is all about change. He works in the lives of believers, changing them for the better. And they in turn are used by God to change others.

The Moi in Indonesia are one example of lives changing lives.

While there is nothing about the LORD that changes, He delights to see positive change in us. He loves to effect this change in us. He carefully works in each one of our lives, changing us into agents-of-change.

Stephen and Carolyn Crockett, along with the rest of the team to the Moi people of Indonesia, have had the privilege of seeing God change Moi lives. This change has been so evident in part to the fact that the Moi lived such ungodly lives before they were introduced to the Truth.

God changed the Crockett’s lives, and through them, a number of Moi are enjoying changed lives. But now it is coming full circle—the Moi are having an opportunity to challenge and change lives in North America.

The NTMfilms team recently made a trip into Moi land to begin shooting footage for an upcoming short film. For nearly two weeks they battled the elements, listening to story after story of lives being changed by the Creator of the Moi.

They met a woman who had never before seen a white person. They walked down trails with men who have killed — some of whom have killed two or even four people. They heard these same men tell of their fear of witchcraft and spirits, and ultimately, death. “We have no old people,” one man said. “We all die young.”

But they also heard dozens of Moi believers lift their voices in praise to God in a uniquely Moi way. They heard them pray and thank God that they no longer live in fear. And they heard them express their appreciation to God, and to the missionaries here, and to all the folks who have helped the missionaries who are planting a church here.

On this crazy journey into the jungles of Indonesia, God was found. He was found changing lives.

The hope of the NTMfilms team is that the story of the Moi journey to faith will have an impact on the North American church. The journey is one of contrasts. Men who once ran through the jungle to set up murderous ambushes today can be heard singing praise to God together.

NTMfilms team member Ian Fallis wrote: “If this film is what we want it to be, it will glorify God, stir praise and worship of our Creator, and inspire others to get involved in the work He is doing; as well as getting the Moi believers involved in all that.”

Will you please join us in praying that, in God’s strength and by His power, we reach those goals?

Since sometime in November, I have been following the blog for the NTM film team that was in the Moi tribe in Indonesia. This tribal work is pretty special to Angie and I because Tim and Kathy Whatley helped start that work (Kathy is Angie’s cousin, and they were our youth leaders when we were in high school).

Now NTM is doing a film on the change that has taken place in the lives of the tribal people since they accepted the Word of God as truth.

The blog for the film team is http://ntmfilms.wordpress.com/
