  • Yesterday I met with a couple in their retirement years, considering volunteering at the NTM Canada home office in Durham. Thank you for praying. I was very encouraged, and look forward to how the Lord directs.
  • Thank you for praying for my decision about going to Florida on Monday or not. I have told my coworkers in FL that I won’t be coming down.

Looking forward

  • Please pray for the Pastors from Saskatchewan who are visiting Durham today. They are on their way home from visiting Wayumi in Pennsylvania.
  • Please be praying for those filling out applications for the Missionary Training Centre for next August. We are asking the Lord for 25 new students!
  • Please pray for Angie and I as we help plan this year’s Staff Retreat for NTM Canada. Our next planning meeting is tonight.
  • Please pray for me next Monday as I meet with some others to brainstorm ways to promote Off The Grid better.
  • Please be praying for those meeting in Sanford at the NTM USA home office next week without me. I know it will be tough ;)

  • Thank you for praying for those at Mission Fest Vancouver.

Looking forward

  • This morning Norm and I will be sharing with the missionaries in training about using MailChimp.com and other tools for building relationships with those praying for us and supporting us financially. Please pray that we teach well.
  • Tomorrow Angie will be turning 31 years old. She needs your prayers :)

Prayer Update – January 25th

Posted by Jason and Angie Bechtel on Friday, January 25th, 2013

Have you been able to stay healthy this winter so far? I was doing pretty good, till returning from Florida. Yesterday I finally gave into the cold I have and went home early to get some rest.

Looking back

  • This week I had the privilege of sitting in on some of the orientation for those joining NTM Canada. I have been challenged by Pete Humphreys teaching on ‘leadership’. Please pray that I don’t dismiss the truths I find most challenging. I am very task orientated, and Pete is very people-centric, which means our default view of ‘leadership’ is from two different angles.
  • On Wednesday we had a family over for lunch that are planning on joining the Home Office staff of NTM Canada. Please pray for them as they search for a home to purchase.
  • On Tuesday I had lunch with Pete and Carly Nichols. Please pray for them as they work on preparing for this summer’s Off The Grid program.

Looking forward

  • Please pray for me as I now have the cold our girls had last week.
  • Starting tonight, some co-workers of mine are representing NTM Canada atMission Fest Vancouver. Please pray that they connect well with people interested in giving their lives for reaching tribes and transforming lives.
  • Please continue to pray for Amelia as she works on her application to volunteer with NTM Canada.
  • Please be praying for those applying to the Missionary Training Centre for next August. We are asking the Lord for 25 new students!
  • I wrote earlier that I will be going to Florida in February. Please continue to pray that I have a clear sense of the Lord’s leading in the decision of whether or not to go.
  • Please pray for me as I seek to grow in the area of ‘servant leadership’ in 2013.
  • Please pray for Angie and I as we help plan this year’s Staff Retreat for NTM Canada.

Thanks for praying! You are a vital part of our tribal church planting team!

Posted by Jason and Angie Bechtel on Friday, January 18th, 2013

Looking back

  • Praise the Lord, Myelle is making a good transition from a crib to a toddler bed. She will be 2 years old March 30th.
  • Thank you for praying for Angie and I as we travelled to Florida earlier this month. As I wrote last week, the Lord knew we needed to be there to help my grandparents move. And we did get some great time of rest and refreshing in as well.
  • I had a safe trip to my GI specialist in Toronto this morning. All is good. My next appointment will be in a year, if I stay healthy. If you want more details, I would love to hear from you!

Looking forward

  • Please pray for Amelia. She is from Brampton, and visited the Home Office of NTM Canada today. She is interested in volunteering, possibly with me.

Thanks for praying! You are a vital part of our tribal church planting team!

Bechtel Prayer Update for September 7th

Looking back

  • Thank you for praying for Angie as she began teaching Algebra II at the NTMC Academy. Her student is getting “A’s” on his quizes.
  • Thank you for praying for Delena. She has had two fantastic days at school. She is in a grade 1 and Senior Kindergarden split class (she is in SK this year).
  • Thank you for praying for T’Miika, Norm and myself as we learn how to work as a team. It is going really well.

Looking forward

  • Please continue to pray for Delena this school year, that she would have a positive influence on her class.
  • Please continue to pray for Angie as she balances her responsibilites in our home, teaching Algebra, church life, social life, etc.
  • Please pray that nothing shows up on Jason’s MRI in Toronto booked for the middle of October. His specialist there just wants to keep an eye on his Crohn’s Disease.
  • Please pray for Jason as he starts taking a weekly 3-hour class in Cambridge next Thursday. Check out http://www.perspectivescanada.org/ for more info on the course.
  • The biggest thing to be praying for this week is Jason’s stress levels. He is helping oversee a conference for all the recruiters and representatives of NTM across Canada. They start arriving today, with most clearing out in a week’s time.

New Puppy in the House: Email Update for August 17th

Posted by Jason and Angie Bechtel on Friday, August 17th, 2012

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like the culture in which we live makes it very hard to do what is right. It can be really hard to do something that is extremely counter-cultural, even when God has told us to do so. But then I read stories like this one from the Nakui tribe in Papua New Guinea. You and I have no idea how anti-God their culture is, and yet these believers are steping out and stepping up. And we can pray for them. Let’s. And we can follow in their example. Let’s.

What is the most counter-cultural thing God has asked you to do?

Puppy Training
Yep, we got a puppy. Lexi is non-shedding, and blonde. She is just over 4 months old, and extremely good with the girls. What is your favourite breed of dog? Why?

Moving back to Durham in a week!
The count down is one. Angie starts teaching Algebra 2 on August 27th, so we will be heading back to Durham the night before. It has been a really good summer of sharing with family and friends the exciting things which God is doing in unreached people groups around the world. But at the same time, we are all looking forward to going home.

So please be praying that we finish strong this coming week.

And be praying for all the missionary candidates that are moving to Durham this week and next. It is another international class, with students from as far away as Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong and Bahamas moving to little-old Durham to be equiped for tribal church planting.

Prayer update for June 29, 2012

Posted by Jason and Angie Bechtel on Friday, June 29th, 2012

How has your week gone? Anything come up that we can be praying with you about?

Looking back

  • thank you for praying for Norm (my new co-worker). I helped him move into his new home this week. His home-projects aren’t finished yet, but at least it isn’t consuming all his time. He is like me in that he would rather be helping people from in the office than doing home renovations!
  • Thank you for praying for our new website! http://canada.ntm.org/ is new again, and Norm and I have been busy fixing little things. If you find anything not quite right, please let us know :)
  • Thank you for praying for all our health.

Looking forward

  • This coming Wednesday we plan to temporarily move into Angie’s parent’s home for July and August. Our goal for the summer is to connect with lots of people and share vision and passion for tribal church planting, trusting the Lord to increase our monthly support team. Please pray that we have sensitivity to the Lord’s leading as we ask people to pray about partnering with us financially.
  • Come visit Angie’s brother in Jungle Camp. Angie and I are planning on being up there Sunday afternoon.
  • Please be praying for us as we help with VBS at my home church the week of July 9th.
  • I found out last night that the contractor I hired to frame and sheet a roof over my (currently flat roof) attached garage is going to do so this coming week, or more likely the week we are helping with VBS. Please pray that I rest in the knowledge that the Lord has the details worked out. I am planning on shingling my roof after he finishs sheeting it, and the timing is not what I would have chosen. But the Lord is in control! If you know anyone interested in helping with some roofing the weekend of July 14th, please let me know.
  • Please be praying for the guys upgrading our phone system in Durham. It is a bit of a hair ball

Thanks for praying! You are a vital part of our tribal church planting team!

May 7 Prayer Update

Posted by Jason and Angie Bechtel on Thursday, June 7th, 2012

I am almost giddy right now. I just received the first part of an
application for someone wanting to join my team as a graphic designer.
Ya, I know, I shouldn’t get my hopes up. It might not work out. But I
have been waiting and praying for months, well, actually, years for my
Communications team to grow in this way. God works in wonderful ways,
and this might just prove it again. I met her on twitter, but she is
from Clinton :)

Speaking of coworkers, Norm is working out fabulously. I couldn’t have
picked a better coworker if I tried. Last week they got the keys to
their first home, and are spending a couple of weeks making it theirs
before moving in. As soon as they are in, they are leaving for
California to visit family and financial supporters.

Thanks for praying for our girls. All of them are over the bug. But
Angie took Lorelei to see a doctor for a bladder infection yesterday.

The conference last weekend was great. I was able to relax and unwind,
and catch up with a number of old friends. Angie did fantastic, and God
had a couple of her friends come over in the evenings to give her some
company.

I will be out of town again this coming Monday-Wednesday. Please pray
for Angie in my absense. Part of the Jungle Camp practicum is the Men’s
Hike. They drop us off in the bush 3 days hike south of Tobermory on
the Bruce Trail. It isn’t a walk in the park, well, maybe it is. But it
is hard. So I don’t go every year. I have to let the memories of pain
and exhaustion fade a bit. This year I am going as staff again. Angie’s
brother Sean is one of the students I will be hiking alongside.

Thank you for continuing to pray for a sensitivity to the Lord’s voice
as we prepare for a full summer of sharing our vision and passion for
reaching the unreached.

Enough about us. How can we be praying for you this weekend and coming
week?

–Jason for the 5 of us.

PS. please pray for our co-workers in the Morop tribe. Jim asked his
language helper, “Why do you tithe?” And he replied, “If we don’t, our
gardens won’t produce, our wives will find other men, we won’t have
children and our sago trees won’t have a good harvest. So we give to
God to keep Him happy and blessing us.” Check out the full story here:
http://usa.ntm.org/mission-news/41731/_we_give_to_god_to_keep_him_happy_

This just brings something else to mind. Please be praying for Norm and
I as we work with our co-workers in the USA on a new website for NTM of
Canada.

Thanks for praying!
