Reaching the Unreached

Is it worth getting tired for?

Is it worth it?Four hours into an eight and one half hour hike and I set down exhausted. The thought of another four and one half hours on the trail clouds my mind with doubt and just for a moment I wonder if this mission stuff in Papua New Guinea is worth it. Can I do this I ask myself as pain wraps my body much like being on a torture rack in some castle of days gone by? The words from Paul’s lips encourage me; we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength, Lord I need that strength now.

The joy of serving the Lord in Papua New Guinea soon clears the doubt and once again my body prepares for what lays a head. As I stand up and walk off I realize being in the center of God’s will is the most exciting journey a man can walk even though the body cries, you have gone to far this time.
.

Is it worth it? You bet it is, and I am not only willing to get a bit tired out here. I am ready to die if that’s what it takes to get the gospel message to the people of Papua New Guinea. We need a few good men and women, could you help? For more information on missions look up “Go ye”, in the Bible and let the Holy Spirit show you God’s plan for the gospel message and how that plan can reshape your life as it has mine. Jack Housley

Who do these shoes belong to?

Shoes that belong to manySTANDING IN YOUR SHOES”

Some times in my travels through a great book I run up on little stories that really hit home with my mind and touches my heart. Let me share this one with you because it speaks so much of the way I feel about you all back home that have been behind me in this work for so many years.

“There was a lad in a country village, who after a great struggle reached the ministry. All through his days of study, a cobbler in the village had helped him. He was a simple man but well-read, and he loved God with all his heart.

In time, the young lad he had helped became licensed to preach, and on the day of his ordination, the cobbler said to him, “Young man, I always had in my heart the desire to be a minister of the gospel, but circumstances of my life never made it possible. You are doing what was always my dream, but never reality. I want you to promise me one thing. I want you to let me make you a pair of shoes for nothing, and I want you to wear them in the pulpit when you preach. Then I’ll feel you are preaching the gospel I always wanted to preach, standing in my shoes.”

I am wearing shoes that belong to many of you and I realize when I do this work it is something many of you would love to be doing, thank you for letting me stand in your shoes. I trust I will never let you down. In all my 30 years with New Tribes Mission I think these are the most exciting times of all. We have several tribes that will hear the gospel message this year and next year our son Bill will hopefully be giving the gospel to his work in the Ramu Valley. Many new believers have already come into the Kingdom of God and more are at the door step of salvation. Please pray for all of us here as we walk in the shoes of many. Jack Housley
