2006 MINISTRY UPDATE: George and Linda Heckman
Thank you for your prayers for our ministry.
Member Services Office- Record keeping, address changes, missionary status changes, assisting in Missionary transitions (becoming members, changing ministries within New Tribes Mission, Retiring form ministry in New Tribes Mission, or stepping out of membership). Being an encouragement to as many missionaries as we can as we contact those on furlough (Home Assignment), and those returning to the fields. Sometimes, Linda fills in at the Main reception desk at the Home Office also.
Regional Member Care: What is it?
Following are some notes from a past Regional Member Care Conference which give us guidelines for fulfilling the purpose and vision of Regional Member Care.
1. Connecting with people: doing face to face member care with furloughing missionaries.
2. Communications: better communication with our furloughing missionaries.
3. Enablement: the Regional Member care team to have the wherewithal to do the necessary traveling to accomplish face-to-face member care, especially when there is a pressing need for this type of interaction.
4. Activities: The RMC team needs to participate in activities which will encourage and foster the spiritual and emotional well-being of our missionaries.
a. Keep ourselves spiritually fresh
b. Keep pointing our folks to the Lord, who alone is able to meet the deepest needs of their hearts, yet aim to provide a safe, nonjudgmental atmosphere for them to share with us.
c. Ongoing training and refreshment to enable the RMC team to be consistently positive and encouraging.
d. Hands-on help for our furloughing members-being available, and hospitable.
e. Communication in tangible ways; showing interest and communicating their value to the Lord and for their partnership with NTM.
f. Provide information resources for our people.
School- Presently, George is teaching the 7-8th grade Bible Class at Lake Monroe Christian Academy. He is enjoying that class a lot. He also just finished substituting (2 weeks) for the English Composition class for the same age group. He really enjoyed that. Linda is also filling in as a substitute at times, in the 1-2 grade, and where needed. It is fun to be involved in the lives of young folks again!
Our Kids- Amy, our eldest is in training at the Missionary Training Center in Camdenton, Missouri. She has one more semester of regular classes, and then will begin the Linguistics course. Debby, our second daughter just got married (February 18th). She and her husband, Brett will begin the missionary training in Missouri this August. Beka, 15 is in 10th grade at a Public High School. Pray for her to stand strong for the Lord, and continue to be a witness for Him. She is so faithful, but really has a daily barrage of worldly “wisdom” she must face daily. David, 13 is really enjoying his time at school and his favorites are English and History, and spending time with friends. Tim, 12 this month, is enjoying 6th grade and his friends at school. He just finished reading The Hobbit, that was quite an accomplishment in reading for him!
