We were thankful and amazed to learn recently that there are eleven Manubu’ men from various Manubu’ churches who are training to become Bible teachers. Dani, a Manubu’ Bible teacher in the lowlands, is training five of them. Two of them are son’s of his. One of his sons training is only ten years old but very bright and very keen to learn to teach God’s Word. He has begun training by helping to teach the evangelistic phase.
It is not unusual for Manubu’ men to start teaching God’s Word at an early age. Pulding, who is Gene’s super translation helper and an amazing Bible teacher, was saved at twelve years of age and starting right away teaching the evangelistic phase of the teaching.
Please PRAY for these young Manubu’ men who are training to teach. We all know who the one is who doesn’t want God’s Word to be taught and that he will be very active tempting them away from this goal they have.
We are in the city for a few days having more Manubu’ Bible lesson books xeroxed and buying supplies so while here Gene went to see his cardiologist to further discuss the pros and cons of a pacemaker. His cardiologist is quite concerned that since Gene has already had a heart attack if he should experience again a very fast heart beat such as 160 beats per minute (bpm) that a 24hour monitor recorded or a very slow heart beat such as 33bpm that the monitor recorded it could be fatal. So Gene went to see the cardiologist in the same hospital who implants pacemakers. Medicine to deal with a fast heartbeat and a pacemaker to keep it from going too slow could be a good way to go. However, this cardiologist very strongly recommended that Gene first have an angiogram as it is possible that there is some blockage. If the angiogram shows any blockage beyond allowed percentage then a bypass could be part of his future. The other cardiologists that Gene has seen also suggested an angiogram. But, the second guy we saw today was very convincing!
So, we are awaiting the scheduling of an angiogram. Because there is always the possibility of an angiogram causing injury to a blood vessel and requiring urgent surgery and the cardiac surgeon will be out of country through July 5, the angiogram probably won’t take place until after he returns. The surgeon is the one Gene saw today who implants pacemakers and also does bypass surgery.
Please PRAY for a safe angiogram and other cardiac procedures and wise decisions for the cardiologists and us in the days ahead. We have medical insurance through New Tribes, but there is a large deductible and then co-pay. We expect that in this country we will have to pay the whole thing to the hospital ourselves and then if the cost goes above our deductible collect from Blue Cross what they will pay.
We know that God has allowed this heart problem and that His purposes are always good. Please PRAY that we will see and respond to opportunities in the lives of others that God puts before us at this time. We very much appreciate all who have been praying for us.
