“For strategic purposes, a people group is the largest group through which the Gospel can flow without encountering significant barriers of understanding and acceptance…” (Peoplegroups.org)
According to the Joshua Project, the number of unreached people groups stands today at 6, 851 and numbers an astounding 40.4% of the world’s population.
Basically, New Tribes Mission opens works amongst people groups where there is no known evangelical, indigineous church functioning that is capable of evangelizing the rest of their people.
There are many definitions available for the term “unreached people group” – but in the end, the need for labourers remains the same.
This next week we finish our Practicum. We’ve spent time working with various “language helpers”, identified and analyzed a kinship system and the barriers it could present to understanding the Gospel, learned to use the specialized program used by New Tribes to collect, organize and store data. In the coming week we’ll be putting together a church planting strategy for the people group we’re studying.
We are greatful for the time spent here in training and for the excellent instruction. But it is constantly on our mind that we humans are not the ones who give the increase to a work! That glory belongs only to the Lord. Please pray that He will send us to a prepared people and that His work will be mighty among them.
