Family or Ministry?
Is this really the question? Does it have to be one or the other?
Or should we ask “How does the Lord want our family to do ministry?”
We believe that our family is our first ministry. God has given us the responsibility of raising our children, nourishing them with His Word (Eph. 6:3). It’s a full time job, as Elijah and Moira can attest to (with three Hall children born in three years). But we see our children as a great help and asset to the ministry of tribal church planting as well!
In an informal poll taken at the MTC campus, about 50 percent of missionaries in training are themselves the children of missionaries. Parents, we are bringing up the next generation of Christians! What will their message be, and will they reflect the heart of God toward reaching the lost and helping fellow believers? How will they learn this?
Partially, they’ll learn it by living the life with us. We’re greatful for all the young families we know who, wherever they are, strive to make a difference for the Gospel.
For tribal missions in particular, there are so many ways kids are a help! Elijah witnessed this as one of seven children brought into a remote village in Papua New Guinea. His parents had instant common ground with the people through their children, and Elijah even remembers helping his parents acquire the language.
So, the answer to the question is, “Yes!”
