The Schaibles Wish You All A Very, Merry Christmas

Can you imagine the anticipation of the wise men as they drew closer to where the star had appeared? For these three men and their company to leave their homeland to find the One who was prophesied of in the pages of the prophets must have been a very serious undertaking.

The Magi found who they were looking for but it took the Lord coming to them in the form of a baby in order for them to be found. Just as they were awed and humbled at seeing the Lord in the manger, we also can have the same awe and wonder this season as we meditate on the Lord’s mercy and love for us evidenced by His entrance into the human race to effect our salvation.

This next year looks to be an even busier one than this year. We are very grateful for the opportunities He has given us and especially for the students who are now being trained to go to the remotest areas of the world to reach those who have never had a chance to hear what the Magi saw. Unless someone physically goes and tells these people, they will remain lost. Thank you for praying for the tribes and the missionaries who are reaching them. The Lord will not forget your work and labor of love. Cheryl and I pray that the Lord will prosper you in all that you do and that you would be in good health, even as your souls prosper.

Doug & Cheryl’s Update

Cheryl and I have been very busy this past year. We have been in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma & Wyoming. In some of these states, we have been there several times. While one of the responsibilities is to find laborers who want to go to a tribe to reach people, we also have been involved in relating to those churches who have sent their members to our training. In some cases, we have taken the leadership of those churches to our Missionary Training Center in Missouri to see the process by which we train their members.

Thank you all for praying for safety and success in finding these laborers and their churches who want to be involved in reaching tribal people.

Leah

Leah is doing well. She is in a bible study with our daughter-in-law, Jane, and enjoying it immensely. It is encouraging for us to see her grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She still manages an On The Border restaurant here in Wichita. She continues to gain more responsibility and wants to move up in the business. Please pray that she would find opportunities to minister to those around her and be a blessing to folks who come into the restaurant for a relaxing evening with their families.

Daniel, Jane & Maddie

A neat family and we are thankful that they are ours. Daniel had been out of work for a couple of months but was just able to get another job yesterday. Please pray that he would be able to earn enough to take care of his family during these tough economic times.
Jane is still teaching a weekly ladies’ bible study and is doing a very good job at it. Please pray that she and Daniel will be encouraged by the Lord’s testing of their faith. Pray also for Maddie to become a woman of God as she eventually grows into a young, godly woman.

Joel & Katie

As you know, Joel and Katie were married on October 1st and returned from their honeymoon to start their lives together. They both work together where they met and are enjoying their time as newlyweds.

As they start their lives together, please pray for them to follow the Lord in whatever He desires for them to do.

Thank you all so much

Cheryl and I want to thank you for your prayers and kindness this past year. We have been very busy and it looks like the next year is starting off the same for which we are even more grateful. Just in the Spring, we will be in Ohio, Oklahoma, Kansas, Wyoming, Texas, Missouri and Illinois and once again, some of these states we will visit several times.

In June, Cheryl and I will be celebrating our 40th year together as husband and wife. It has been a privilege being married to her and I am very grateful that she and I have a common sense of humor. I can’t imagine what it would be like if she did not laugh at my jokes and she says she can’t imagine what it would be like if I did not give her a reason to laugh at my foibles. Ha ha! Wait a minute! What did she mean by that?

Have a very wonderful Christmas. We are so grateful that the Lord gave us friends like all of you and especially that the Lord gave us a Friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Your servants for the Lord’s sake,

Doug & Cheryl Schaible

I think we drove more miles than ever but it was great to meet a lot of new folks and some of those whom we interacted with have made the decision to be involved in reaching tribal people. We do thank the Lord for this answer to prayer.

Cheryl and I want to express our gratitude to all those who have been a blessing to us over the years. Many of you have given towards our support, others have prayed for us and encouraged us along the way but we thought we would like to give a special thank-you to a group of folks whom we have not been so public in thanking.

As you can see by the travels we have had this semester, we have driven many miles. When I started as a mobilizer for New Tribes Mission, gas was about $1.00/gal so you can see that it doesn’t get any cheaper to be a rep but the price of one thing has not increased for us and that is the cost of staying with friends when we are out on the road.

I first started mobilizing at the beginning of 2000 and I can only remember one or two times that I have not been able to stay with friends while I was traveling. (Actually, I spent one of those nights in my car in a Wal-Mart parking lot. I will have to tell you all that story sometime) In every other instance, friends, supporters, people involved in hospitality ministries and others have been very gracious to allow us to stay in their homes. This has saved us an enormous amount of money and we have been able to use that for fuel instead. We appreciate your ministry of hospitality so much and it reminds me of 3 John 5-8 which says, “Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the brethren and for strangers, who have borne witness of your love before the church. If you send them forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God, you will do well, because they went forth for His name’s sake, taking nothing from the Gentiles. We therefore ought to receive such, that we may become fellow workers for the truth.”

Doug & Cheryl

Cheryl and I are grateful to be busy and at the same time to have bit of a rest this summer. We have some significant meetings going on and we thank you for being involved in them. We will travel to Arkansas, Missouri and Texas and catch up on some home repair. A group of men andyoung men will be coming to help us replace the roof on our house on June 29,30. If you want to be involved in that, please be our guest. It will probably take us one full day and maybe a little of the next to finish it up.

Leah & Maddie

How has our daughter, Leah been doing?

Leah continues to manage an On the Border restaurant here in Wichita. She has been involved in a Bible study with our daughter-in-law and is a blessing to us. We are so thankful for the children we have. You can see her here with our granddaughter, Maddie. We really like this picture.

As with all of our children, please pray for their spiritual growth and to be a blessing to the people whom they work with.

How has our son, Daniel and his wife, Jane and their daughter, Maddie been doing?

Daniel, Jane & Maddie

Daniel just finished up the school-year teaching his fourth-grade class and has decided to make a career change. He is going to be working at a car dealership selling cars. It is the #1 Suzuki dealership in the country and the owner is a neat believer who wants the Christian lifestyle to be evident in the workplace. I think that it will be a good move for him at this time. Jane, his wife, is having bible studies and just being a great wife and mom.

How has our other son, Joel been doing?

Joel & Katie

Joel will be getting married on October 1 to his girlfriend, Katie. They have been dating for over three years now and we couldn’t be happier to have her as a daughter- in-law. Joel and Katie finished up college this past year and are now getting ready to think about their future as husband and wife. Joel is still working as a pharmacy technician and Katie is working is a physical therapist for those who have had strokes and injuries.

Final thought!

I have been reading 3 John lately and it has been such a blessing to me. Gaius and Demetrius was such a blessing to the folks in their fellowship and we will forever remember them for their faithfulness to the Truth and for ministering to the saints. Let’s keep pressing on regardless of the condition of this lost and dying world. He is worth it.

Each one of you have been an integral part of this ministry and we pray that you realize that your ministry of hospitality has helped us to find people to go to those who have never heard. Without your help, where would some of these tribal people be today or in the future. Cheryl and I want to thank you sincerely from the bottom of our hearts.

We pray that the Lord will allow you to prosper and be in health, even as your souls prosper. – 3 Jn. 2.

Support workers are needed! Maybe you can be one?

Cheryl and I want to thank you for your kindness and love for us. We have appreciated working together with you. We are happy to say that we know of at least 11 students who have entered missionary training in the last 12 months and you all have had a direct part of bringing this to pass.

Often, we think that people get this “Call” to be missionaries but most of the time, it is just someone taking the time to explain to interested parties the needs of the lost in a way that makes sense to them. This is why it is so important to know the Word and who God really is. Then, when we know how God views a lost and dying world, we can say, like the apostle Paul, “What would You have me to do?”

How would you do your work without electricity?

All of us working together to reach those who have never heard is the only successful strategy that there is. Church-planters need a group of support workers who allow them to do the work of the ministry in places where they are not able to provide for themselves. This is where you and we come in. We are doing our part by finding, sending, praying for, providing financially for and encouraging those who have chosen to give their lives to reach those who would never have the opportunity to hear otherwise. This allows them to stay at their posts and finish the task that the Lord has given them. All we can say is thank you for being faithful to the ministry that the Lord has entrusted to you.

Take care and know that we are praying for you. The Lord is good.

Your friends and co-laborers,

Doug & Cheryl Schaible

Prayer Requests:

More laborers in church-planting and support ministries.

More meetings to share the needs for laborers.

Safety while traveling and protection for family when gone.

Spiritual awakening for Haiti.

Unity in the Body of Christ concerning reaching a lost and dying world.

Short-Term Opportunities Associates

Many of the opportunities listed in the previous column are also available on a short-term basis. Because NTM needs laborers in so many areas, we can use people who are still committed to reaching tribal people but can only do it for a short time, such as 6 mos. – 4 years. We also have shorter-term opportunities listed below.

Wayumi

Wayumi is a short-term educational program located in central Pennsylvania. Its purpose is to educate interested people NTM’s church-planting strategy. You can be involved in the program from a weekend to a full week. Check out the link to its website.http://www.ntm.org/missiontrips/wayumi.php

Like Wayumi, Interface’s purpose is to educate interested people in who NTM is, what they do and understanding the rationale for planting churches the way that they do, but in much greater detail. You would spend six weeks in Papua New Guinea living next to a tribal village being educated in all aspects of NTM strategy. Go to the link below. http://www.ntm.org/missiontrips/interface.php

Assist Summit Assist teams go to different countries where NTM works and help out in different work projects. The link below will give you the contact info you need to find out more. http://www.ntm.org/missiontrips/assist.php

Internships This is for college students and usually works in conjunction with the Interface program. Please contact the Summit office at MissionTrips@ntm.org for more info.
