Sharing the Joyful Journey in Fabulous Florida

An Exciting Day

Posted by in Uncategorized on May 31st, 2007 | Discuss This Post |   Share

We aren’t heading back to Mexico yet as the house still hasn’t sold, but we’re heading out this morning on the first of several little summer jaunts.

One of the purposes of this trip is to meet and make new contacts in Houston, TX at Melody’s 40th high school reunion (can you believe it’s the 40th?). From there we’ll head up to Missouri to visit our daughter and meet the special man in her life. We’ll visit other family and friends along the way. We should be gone around 2 weeks.

Please pray for safety on the road and that we will be a "sweet fragrance of Christ" to everyone we come in contact with.

God continues to hugely blessed us, and I know it is a direct result of your prayers on our behalf. Thank you SO much for praying!

While you’re at it, pray for our house to sell, as well as for the details for the rest of the summer travel to fall in place. We are looking to the Lord for "travel planning" wisdom. We need to get back to Mexico this summer, but there are several other trips we need to make before we do. Pray for God’s direction and timing for each of those trips.

Thank you so much!

Not Long Now, Hopefully!

Dear Family and Friends,

Thanks so VERY much for praying for the requests we sent you last month. Some of those requests are still the same, but others are new or a little different.

You are a huge part of what God is doing not only in our lives, but what He is doing in Mexico. Do you remember the story in 2 Chronicles 20 when enemies were going to go to war against Judah? King Jehoshaphat was afraid and didn’t know what to do, so he sought the Lord. The tribe of Judah gathered together with him, and they sought the Lord together. Praying together, the Lord answered them. Thank you for being our “tribe” and praying together with us!

Please continue to pray for wisdom for our departure date. We received encouraging word from our field leadership the other day that we will not have to resign from the mission like we thought if we aren’t ready financially to return to the field the beginning of June. They really want us to go back; they have a job for us to do, but they want us to have at least 60% of the recommended support before we go. Right now we stand at about 53%. So, we will be able to decide on a departure date once the support level is reached. However, we have NO idea when that will be, however! In the light of that, please pray that new supporters will commit to having a part in the ministry that God has for us in Mexico. We are very thankful that a Sunday school class and a couple from another church have committed to supporting us. As a result of that, we now only need $520 a month additional support. Praise the Lord!

Furlough House Now For SaleDoug has been very busy working on the house getting it ready to list with a realtor. He has painted several rooms, power-washed the outside and accomplished several other needed jobs. There are only a couple other rooms to paint and maybe the kitchen floor to replace. Then we think it’ll be ready to list. Pray for grace and strength to accomplish these tasks. Pray also for a buyer. It would be great if we could find a buyer before we have to list it!

In many ways we feel like we are standing on the brink of some very exciting things about to happen. We’ve had a great furlough time spending time with our home church and family, but we’re anxious to get back. It is exciting for us to think about the things the Lord is “fixin” to do preparing the way for us to get back to the ministry He has for us in Mexico. Thank you SO much for your part in the ministry to Mexico!

May the Lord richly bless you today, tomorrow and in the days to come!

Getting Close!

Posted by in Uncategorized on Mar 8th, 2007 | Discuss This Post |   Share

Oh, my goodness! We just noticed the calendar! Tomorrow will be March 9! Can you believe how FAST time is FLYING by?

Speaking of time flying by, our furlough is very quickly coming to an end. We are due back in Mexico June 2. That leaves us just about 10-12 weeks before we’ll be heading "home". In the light of that, please take note and pray for the following items:

1. Pray for direction for departure date. We are due back in Mexico June 2, but we want to visit Doug’s folks and our kids scattered across the US one more time before crossing the border.

2. Transportation. We are so thankful for the consortium that faithfully made our $340 monthly van payments for 1 1/2 years. However as of January, they had to stop making those payments. Trust God with us for the extra income or support that is need to continue paying for the van.

3. Pray for the sale of our house in Tunnel Hill, GA

4. Pray for the $600 increase in monthly support needed before returning to Mexico in June.

Getting Settled

Posted by in Uncategorized on Aug 22nd, 2006 | Discuss This Post |   Share

Now that we’re pretty much settled in a home, we would like to get busy sharing the ministry of New Tribes Mission in as many churches, Sunday schools, small groups, etc. as we can. Pray for God to open doors. Also, pray for grace and strength as we take those opportunities. Pray that we will be filled with the Holy Spirit each step of the way, and that we’ll be a blessing everywhere we go.

Getting Settled

Home Sweet Home...for nowWhen was the last time you moved? Do you remember what a horrendous job it was? As you probably remember, we have made a MAJOR move recently. We left Chihuahua on May 29, heading for the Chattanooga, TN area where we are spending our home assignment year. We made a few stops along the way to visit our older children and grandchildren and finally arrived the end of June.

When we started looking for housing, we discovered that rent was pretty high, higher than buying. We asked you to pray for wisdom and direction for our housing situation, and God answered your prayer.

We thought we would have to get a fixer-upper house that needed a lot of work, but God gave us MORE than we asked for. God answered your prayers by giving us a comfortable little house that doesn’t even need a lot of fixing up! Also, it is only 1/2 mile from our son Zac and his family! What a blessing! Another blessing is that it is 3-bedroom and 2-bath. That means that there’s room to have visitors! Y’all come! We’d love to have you stop in for a visit!

Thank you so much for praying for us.

We are so thankful that you are part of our team helping expand the reach of the gospel by praying and giving of yourselves in many ways. May God richly bless you!

Whew! We’ve finally arrived!

Posted by in Uncategorized on Jul 3rd, 2006 | Discuss This Post |   Share

Zac, Alyssa and BraydenPraise the Lord; your prayers have been answered! We have finally arrived safe and sound at our "final" destination in Chattanooga, TN. I say "final" because we’ve arrived where we’re going to be living for the year, but we don’t have a house/home yet. So, it’s not final, final.

Our youngest son, Zac, and his wife and baby have graciously offered to let us stay with them in their charming little 2-bedroom home in Tunnel Hill, GA, while we look for housing. Since rent is as high or higher than house payments, we are looking for a small house to purchase. The thought is maybe we can find a "fixer-upper" that we can work on and sell at the end of the year.

Your prayers are coveted. Please pray for wisdom for housing decisions, whether we should buy or rent. Also, pray for direction for ministry opportunities during this home assignment year. We are not here just to be on a year-long vacation. We want to share with as many folks as possible what the Lord is doing in New Tribes Mission-Mexico as well as New Tribes Mission-World-Wide. We would love to share in your home, church, small group, prayer group or Bible study group – basically anywhere! You can contact us at doug_corley@ntm.org  or call us at 678-935-2064.

Refresher Course

Posted by in Uncategorized on Jul 3rd, 2006 | Discuss This Post |   Share

Andy Corley on personal websitesWhen was the last time you bumped into a close friend that you hadn’t seen in over twenty years? Do you remember how exciting it was to catch up on all the news and find out how everyone was doing now? Many of us New Tribes missionaries had the privilige to do just that last month at the annual New Tribes Mission Refresher Course in Candenton, MO.

The purpose of Refresher Course is to refresh, equip and update missionaries that are home from their field of service for a year of home assignment. We were offered Bible teaching sessions, technical seminars and encouragement from the Word of God. For example, we couldn’t help but be encouraged by the technical presentations that our very own son, Andy Corley, presented on personal websites and communications. We were so proud of him! Another truly refreshing session pointed us to the awesome, incredible majesty of our incredible God in a way that I had never imagined before.

Although the organized sessions were terrific, the fellowship time with long-time friends that we hadn’t seen in years, as well as with new friends from other fields was like a long, cool drink of ice cold lemonade on a blistering hot day.  We reconnected with friends that we hadn’t seen in over 30 years! What a joy!

All in all, Refresher Course definitely lived up to its name!

Need your prayers for wisdom!

We have finally arrived at our home assignement location. Pray for wisdom for housing decisions. Since rent is so high, should we buy a house or rent one?

Also, pray for opportunities to share the work of New Tribes Mission. Pray God will use us to challenge many folks with missions.

Still Fighting the Darkness……

Posted by in Uncategorized on Jun 14th, 2006 | Discuss This Post |   Share

CHIHUAHUA, Mexico: Although the light of God’s Word has broken through into many Tarahumara lives, there is still a battle going on for the souls of men and women.

“There is an ever evil darkness felt here daily,” wrote missionaries Tony and Lauren Finch.

Just a few hundred feet down the hill from the Finch’s house, a small group of Tarahumara Indians were sacrificing a cow.

“It is their belief that God is asking this of them in order for Him to send rain,” wrote Tony. “They will cook the meat all night and then tomorrow offer it up to him to eat.”

The Tarahumaras were doing this “because of an appearance of God to a man in a community about 60 miles from here,” wrote Tony. “Word had reached our area and the faithful are responding.”

“Please pray with us,” wrote Tony, “that God, the true and only God, will cause His truth to prevail here in their hearts.”
