Is the Rainbow evil?

Beautiful rainbow

The Pai people are afraid of the rainbow.  They believe the rainbow is very dangerous & must never be pointed at with your finger or looked at.  The rainbow may cause a person to be paralyzed or it may take a person or cause death.  When a rainbow is seen the person will begin to chop at it with a machete or draw a rainbow on the ground & then chop it to protect them-self from the rainbow.  The rainbow is evil & to be feared.

Cenidia said to her husband Chito, ..It must be all lies that the missionaries are teaching us.  What they are teaching us isn’t what we have been taught.  When the big flood came Grandfather saved himself by climbing up into a palm tree & chanted. As long as he chanted the tree grew & he was saved from the flood. Grandmother drew a circle on the ground & stepped into the circle chanting, it floated like a tub & she was saved from the flood.  We have always been taught the rainbow is evil not a promise from God.

Meeting together

It’s August! It’s time, for the long awaited Regional Pai Conference,  for the Guarani speaking Christians in the our region. Each year this conference is held in different communities as the indigenes churches volunteer to host the conference. We have attended twice taking two couples with us each time but this year everyone wants to go as the conference is closer. So a big truck has been rented. Each family will pay $3. for food, be responsible to take plates, spoons, cups and a blanket.

Each one will meet and enjoy other brothers and sister in Christ from other communities!
Each one will enjoy and soak in the Word of God.
Each one will be encouraged and encourage others.

Pastor Andres ( a Paraguayan Pastor from town) will share from the Word twice on Saturday along with Pai believers and missionaries. Everyone will be given opportunity to share in an open meeting.

Praise: The Pai believers are traveling with a missionary Miria and Elviocouple to teach in a village along the river. They just returned all enthused and excited saying the people want us to visit them in their homes and want to hear the Bible lessons.

Pray for those on this community who are capable readers and teachers to catch a vision for teaching their own people.
Pray for the people to think through each lesson, for God to give them spiritual understanding of scripture and for them to understand truth. Passive listening isn’t Sharing togehtergoing to give them understanding of the Word of God.

Pray for the next trip to the village along the river. Who can go and when the next trip can take place.

Pray for these classes as the Gopel messege is unfolded to them throught the Firm Foundation Bible lessosn.

Leonosio & Plasida & Don & Julie are co-teaching Firm Foundation Bible lessons to Mamerto’s family group. Two married sons with wives. They have heard once before but have asked to be taught again in order to understand better. They are all poor readers. So pray for them to improve in their reading & for God to open their eyes to spiritual truths.

Eusevio & Florinda have ask to be taught after years of being apposed to the Gospel messeage. So we will have the privilege of teaching them & about 11 young teens have joined this class.

Armadillo for lunch.

Rosada

Our Pai friend was at his home when his daughter said, Look a little pig.  Looking up from his work he saw an armadillo coming down the path to their home. He caught the armadillo & was preparing to cook it when his father-in-law arrived at his home and said, –What have you got there?

Our friend said, –This armadillo came to our house. I caught it so we can eat it.

His father-in-law said, –That is “mba’e mbora’u” You cant eat it! You have to burn it! It brings death! Someone will die if you don’t burn it & throw it away.

Our friend said, –I have heard the Word of God & in the beginning God created all of the animals & said they are good. Also when the Israelites were in the desert & hungry, God sent them doves right to their tents for them to eat. So God does sometimes send food right to us at our home. It is OK for us to eat the armadillo as God is in control and sent it to us to eat.

Epifanio correctly applied truth to his daily life from the Word of God.

Teens gather together.

Teens

The young people are open to the Word of God. We want to teach the teens while their hearts are still tender. We have just a few teens being raised by Christian parents but most of the young people come from unstable homes. The believers invited young people from a near community for a weekend of games, singing and teaching from the Word of God.
Pass the ball.     The young people defiantly had a great time and want to do it again soon.
Go girls go.     Pray for the teens to choose to follow the truth they are learning from the Bible. Pray for them to encourage each other to do good and walk in truth.
