Crazy Times!
We have been here at the New Tribes Mission Home Office for 5 closing days in the office now. The last day of every month we close out the books in the office. This can be a rather large task because we don’t know what errors are going to be thrown at us as we close that could hold us up. Closing the books in October was bigger than the rest. It was my 5th closing and this time I was asked to co-lead the it. Our office manager had an opportunity for him and his son to go to Israel, but it had to be over the closing. This was only the second time in his eleven year career in the office that he would be missing closing. To add to the craziness, another mainstay in the office had a heart attack in September and I have been asked to cover his duties as well.
Thankfully the day went well. We only had to call our computer programmers once on that day to help us through an issue. We had the books closed by 6:30, only an hour and a half overtime. It was a great learning experience.
The rest of the week did not calm down though. Our manager was back in the office on Thursday, but on that day and for the rest of the week, two other ladies were out. One had a funeral to do to and the other was sick. At that point I had to take on their jobs as well. So for those two days I was juggling 3 positions. Once again, though I felt a little in over my head, it went really well. Covering all these positions has made it a great learning experience. It is the leaderships hope that I will learn every aspect of the office so that I can fill in any spot. It is also their hope that if we are still here, that someday I will take over being the manager of the office. It is a big job, but one that needs to be filled and I could see myself taking on. Though I am in an office all day working on missionaries finances, it is very fulfilling to be a part of the big picture! New Tribes Mission is currently working in 253 tribes. That may be language learning or it may be discipling believers or it could be anywhere in-between. It is so awesome to be a part of it, and an integral part of the team making it happen.
The George’s Have Arrived at the NTM Home Office!
Hello from the cooler south!
That’s right, from what we have been hearing it is actually cooler here in Florida then it is in the North. As I write this, it is now 89
here in Sanford. We can not believe that it has been a month since we left Pennsylvania to move to the New Tribes Mission Home Office in Sanford, Fl. We are just about settled in our apartment in the Home Office building. The first floor is all the offices and the second and third floor are apartments for the staff here. David is getting bombarded with information in the Finance office. They are training him to be the Assistant Finance Office Manager. This will take a few months so that he knows every aspect of the office thoroughly then he will settle in to the accounts payable.
This will mean he will pay all the missions bills, including bills for missionaries in remote areas of the world. He is really enjoying the training and the work. He is quiet the nerd for getting into this stuff! Rachel is just about completely settled into the apartment. Only a few boxes left to unpack. We are thrilled that we may have found a church here in our third try. It is a big church, but we are loving their mindset about serving in the community and enjoy their services! Hope the rest of you all are having a great summer!
Praise and Prayer request:
-Praise that we are getting settled in our new place.
-Praise we may have found a church to get involved in here.
-Pray for David as there is a lot to learn in the office.
Headed to Michigan
It has been exciting to have so many opportunities so far this year to share with whoever we can about what God is doing in the lives of unreached people groups. We just finished having groups into our house to share about New Tribes Mission and the part we have in reaching the lost with the gospel. This week we met with a pastor of another Church about them possibly joining our team. Now, we are headed out to Michigan to take part in their missions conference with all sorts of opportunities to share our ministry. We will be sharing in front of the Church, with the kids, teens, and their family night. We are thankful for this opportunity and would appreciate your prayers that all would go well.
Our time in Pennsylvania is winding down. We have already begun packing up our house as we have to be out of our apartment this month! We are sad to leave Pennsylvania behind but are excited for what God has ahead for us!
Partnership Development
We are currently having a time of PD (partnership development). We are taking a year to reconnect with those we already have relationships with and hopefully make some new ones! We have spent a lot of our time in Pennsylvania with our sending church Salem Bible Church. It has been SO EXCITING to see the Lord providing for us as He continues to add people to our team and open up more and more opportunities to share! We will try to keep you updated on how things are going in the next few months before we head down to work at the NTM USA home office.
