I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t want to be classified as a barbarian! Especially when it comes to proclaiming the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ to those around us! But, how do we avoid being a barbarian?

Bethany-Matthew-Duet So, just what are ‘titeres’? Well, they’re soft, cute, cuddly, have a personality all their own & are definitely entertaining to watch. No, they’re not well-trained family pets. In fact, they’re not even alive at all. Titeres are what Spanish-speakers call puppets.

This is a glorious time of year. It is a time when we pause to give thanks for the many blessings we have received from the Lord’s hand during the past year. In fact, we are exhorted in Scripture to be thankful each and every day, not just on the special day we call "Thanksgiving."

Paraguay Proceedings

Kids with medical masks The passengers filed down the stairs from the just-arrived airliner to the buses waiting on the tarmac. Each wore the government-required surgical mask & gloves. Disembarking at the terminal, each was subjected to an electronic scan to detect Swine Flu. Such was our welcome to Buenos Aires, Argentina, on our way to Paraguay.

Thank God I am an atheist “I’m an Atheist, thank God!” our neighbor Héctor jokingly declared upon learning we are missionaries. The truth is, Héctor is a nominal adherent of the national church who is afraid to embrace another “religion” for fear of what friends & family will think.

Helpless & Hopeless

Worshipers carrying the icon of the Christ of Health If the economic downturn, cartel wars, & rampant street crime were not enough, now the people of Mexico are also suffering from the effects of the Swine Flu epidemic. I recently received a vivid reminder of just how all of these problems converge & add to the helplessness & hopelessness Mexicans feel daily.
