Hector & Nicodemus

Posted by David and Sherri Pryor on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Our neighbor Hector

Last week Hector was so engaged during our Bible study that he continued to read ahead in the next lesson even after we finished. The next lesson was about Nicodemus & his question to Jesus concerning the meaning of being “born again.” Hector read the scripture from John 3 aloud to us & announced, “Nicodemus was a good man & yet he lacked one thing to go to Heaven. He had not put his trust in Jesus as Savior.” (more…)

New tribal believers being baptized in the mountains

New tribal believers being baptized in the mountains

“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you, and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith.” (2 Thessalonians 3:1-2)

Dear Ministry Partners,

We greatly appreciate each & every prayer & financial partner God has given our family during these trying days in Mexico. Considering the times in which we live here South of the border, we earnestly desire your prayers in the same two areas Paul requested of the believers in Thessalonica:

  1. for the progress of the message, and,
  2. for the preservation of the messengers. (more…)

Questions & Answers

Posted by David and Sherri Pryor on Friday, November 26th, 2010

Questions“In the past, people have come to my door & tried to convert me to their religion. Each time, we would have long conversations during which I would ask many questions.  Some of my questions they could answer, but others they would never answer. Sometimes they would return with their friends, but eventually they all gave up & stopped coming. None of them have ever been able to give me the answers to the questions I have…until now. You are answering them, and the answers make sense.”

This is what Hector, a neighbor, has told us since we began weekly Bible studies with him & his wife, Magda. (more…)

Death & Life in Mexico

Posted by David and Sherri Pryor on Saturday, September 25th, 2010

DeathMission work has been fraught with risk from the beginning & Mexico is no exception. Reaching tribal groups in the Sierras was always risky due to the lawlessness inherent in the mountains. That lawlessness has now spread to the cities. Between the violence of criminal cartels, the government’s efforts to stop them & general crime having grown explosively, modern Mexico has become a dangerous place. (more…)

La Sierra Tarahumara

IMG_2323 Imagine a canyon 6,000 feet deep at its deepest point. Imagine descending foot paths that snake from the rim past a rope bridge spanning a portion of the canyon to the bottom where small waterfalls feed pools hidden in the shadows of the steep canyon walls. Imagine Tarahumara Indians in their traditional dress still eeking out a living in such a rugged environment. These were the very images that met our Puppet Team when we traveled to La Sierra Tarahumara – the Tarahumara Mountains.

Posted by David and Sherri Pryor on Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

4058_NpAdvHover BARBA’RIAN, n. – A rude, uncivilized person unacquainted with the language, laws & manners of those around them. (1828 Webster’s Dictionary)

I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t want to be classified as a barbarian! Especially when it comes to proclaiming the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ to those around us! But, how do we avoid being a barbarian?

Be Prepared!

be-preparedBe prepared! Robert Baden-Powell explained this famous motto of the Scouting Movement he founded as, “You have to be prepared at any moment to face difficulties and even dangers by knowing what to do and how to do it.” This same explanation can be applied to the need for emergency planning & preparedness in mission work.

Hospitality, Help & Homework

Posted by David and Sherri Pryor on Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Hospitality Quick, name one thing that hospitality, help & homework all have in common! Can’t quite put your finger on it? For our family the answer is easy: it’s the faithful & persevering wife, mother, home-schooler, hostess, teacher & missionary known to us simply as Sherri or Mom.
