Praise God that David was able to be discharged from the hospital Tuesday afternoon. His longest walk since Friday was done in the grocery store on the way home waiting for his prescription to be filled.
During his 3 1/2 days in the hospital David was assigned a primary doctor and three specialists, each with their own teams. David joked with one of his nurses that he should have received a free t-shirt or movie tickets for blood donations. Almost every test imaginable was done and some, like an MRI, was repeated focusing on a different areas.
The MRI on David’s head came back negative …as did all the other tests that were conducted. All tests related to a possible stroke or heart attack showed that neither occurred. Understandably, David’s blood pressure was elevated when he came in, but the pattern continued and was really the only test that came back as a possible cause. The first dose of a free medication brought David’s blood pressure within a comfortable range.
You may remember that several years ago David had similar symptoms at the onset of the “event,” but this time was much different. Last time David had a spinning sensation due to inner ear crystals and did not need to be hospitalized. This time none of the vertigo symptoms occurred during or afterward even though David was very weak, was sweating profusely and was very nauseous for many hours.
During David’s stay in the hospital one of the patients he roomed with received news that in order to live much longer he required a surgery he was not willing to have. This lead to a very profitable conversation and revealed deep misunderstanding about the Bible’s message. This man told David he knew this conversation did not happen by accident and that he wanted to talk with David further. Please pray for this opportunity and that Nigel would respond to the Gospel in repentance and faith.
The hospital bill alone will be nearly half of a year’s income and probably at least a whole year’s income by the time bills come in from the specialists, labs and scans. Although we have to pay over $700 a month for medical insurance, we’re thankful for it at times like this.
If you’re interested in knowing our financial needs as a result of this hospital stay or the Attention Mastery class Caleb will be taking later this month please see our Financial Update
Thank you for praying for David and our family while David was hospitalized and please continue to pray for David’s full recovery and the ongoing outpatient visits and tests in the days to come.
