Wednesday was Savannah’s appointment to follow-up on the leg surgery she had back in August 2007. What we found out was really good news, but it could mean another surgery in six months.
Savannah just loves the children’s hospital. She can’t wait to get there to see the saltwater fish tank and play in the waiting room. They have a couple volunteers in the waiting area to help the kids color and do other crafts. The walls of the hospital are covered with murals of underwater ocean scenes.
Savannah went through the usual routine of being weighed and measured. Then she gets to have her “picture taken” — the kind where Mom and Dad have to step out of the room while the technician snaps the shot. She handles it just like a trip to the mall.
The results from Savannah’s x-rays are that her legs are now perfectly aligned. We’ve noticed that she has been growing a lot, which for her means she now weighs 35 lbs. and is one inch over three feet tall. With the eight-plate in place over her lower leg growth plate, it has managed to correct the bow in her legs.
Savannah’s doctor would like to see her legs over-correct a little before removing the eight-plates. We’ll need to go back in about four months to have Savannah’s progress checked again. Praise God that Savannah’s legs have straightened as well as they have and that she has very good mobility without having to wear braces.
