Coming back to the office Monday after taking a three day weekend to go camping with Caleb felt a little like receiving an electric shock as punishment for having done something wrong.
I remember having an electric fence for our beagles when we really needed to keep them at home. Or when we were hunting around a cow pasture, I used to pick a long blade of grass to test the fence to see if it was “hot” before crossing it. Recently I was in a tire shop where a puppy was being kept behind the counter by a high voltage mat on the floor.
I will never have time to respond to all the requests from overseas missionaries, messages from others on the communication team or security alerts that came in just over this past weekend. This is a tough reality for someone with a perfectionist personality. And this overload occurred even through I was checking and responding to some messages on my smartphone everyday.
When I shot an eight-point buck this past November, I answered email from my phone before I got down from my climbing stand. And between field dressing it and dragging it out of the woods I had to login to the content management system for NTM.org, review a couple articles and put them online.
Please pray that the “electric shock training” will never work and that I will continue to periodically take time away to relax, spend time with my family and meet with fellow Christ-followers.
